Re: Redshirt freshman Jalin Marshall was also impressive in the slot, as safeties were also no match for him. He had a catch in the slot against linebacker Darron Lee and, pardon the cliche, but he stopped on a dime and left Lee with the change. There were even a few snaps with Marshall and Wilson on the field together, which looked extremely promising.

Excited about Marshall, but after last season I'd probably be happier reading one of the safeties hit him so hard he thought about quitting football. Just sayin' ...

Yeah it would be awesome if a stud youngster that lost Pt last season because of a concussion got obliterated again to bring him close to quitting. :shake:

It would be twice as awesome to know that safeties are going for kill shots instead of tackling.

You cant't hit hard while having good form? Being hit is part of the game, he has been cleared to play and understands I am sure better than 99% of us the risk of a contact game. I would have no issue at all if our safties developed to the point where no wr wanted any part of them. I think it would be awesome if everyone just wore black jersey's all spring and fall camp to avoid any hits or injuries. Now that would be awesome.

of course, but the quest for hard has exacerbated the lack of tackling in the back seven.

I never claimed otherwise. I just don't share the admittedly sarcastic enthusiasm for him being knocked into career limbo.

Naturally I would love another Whitner or four, but when the defense isn't in the same galaxy as Iowa, my initial goals are much lower.

The last thing osu needs is another wicked hit on Jalin in the offseason, let alone the safeties still going for kill shots. Ask Spielman how he feels about that trend in this generation (or just listen to any game he calls for the answer).

Meyer has seen the fight that he wants from his players, and what he wants to see this spring is for them to just go out there and play and have some fun. He doesn't want the players being held back by his coaches, as they try to fine tune a player six months before he even plays a game.

Mistakes are okay at the moment, provided they happen at full speed. This has always been one of Meyer's mantras, and it is no different this time around. "I just want guys to play," he said.

"Don't restrict players. Let them go and have fun and play the game. We don't play tomorrow. Here's a good example, Jalin Marshall today is a completely different football player than he was a year ago. Why? I put that on the coach. Let the kid go play."

Marshall was definitely one of the stand outs of Tuesday's practice, making catches all over the field and looking dynamic while doing it. He appears to have taken quite well to the new approach.

Ohio State WR Jalin Marshall out with knee injury

Ohio State redshirt freshmen Jalin Marshall will miss the rest of spring practice with a torn meniscus.

According to Dave Biddle of Bucknuts.com, Ohio State redshirt freshmen wide receiverJalin Marshall is out for the rest of the spring after suffering a torn meniscus in practice yesterday.

Losing Marshall is tough because he had a great opportunity to showcase his skills and grow into Ohio State's offense this spring. He'll have to wait until fall camp to showcase his skill set in front of the Buckeye coaching staff.

Provided he perform well in fall camp, he should still play a relatively big role in the offense next season due to departures of Corey "Philly" Brown and Chris Fields. Ohio State returns two starters at the position, but senior Devin Smith is likely the only guy we can safely place into the starting lineup as things currently stand.

A high school quarterback for the Middletown Middies, Marshall made the switch to wide receiver when he arrived in Columbus last summer. Many thought he would play a role in the offense last year, but he ended up redshirting. He could also be used as an h-back in Ohio State's spread offense.

This isn't the first notable injury to occur this spring as sophomore Vonn Bell is also out for the spring with an MCL injury, though he will be ready for fall camp as well.

Star quarterback Braxton Miller is also limited this spring as he had shoulder surgery just a couple of weeks before practice kicked off.

In addition to Marshall, Mike Thomas, Johnnie Dixon, Jeff Greene, Evan Spencer, Corey Smith, Curtis Samuel, James Clark, and others will be battling for playing time at wide recover this year.

We will have more if any more news regarding Marshall's knee injury emerges.

I was diagnosed with a torn meniscus. The injury happened at the end of August, 2013. My knee still hurts when I go up or down stairs. And I get the feeling that my tear wasn't very bad at all, compared to what it could be.
I am going to bet the farm and make the assumption that Jalin is in much, much, MUCH better shape than I am. Plus, being about 18 or 19 now, he has that going for him, as well. Hopefully, his recovery is much faster than mine has been.
