Middletown senior quarterback Jalin Marshall talked about his decision to play college football at Ohio State this fall during the GMC signing day event at Voice of America Park in West Chester Wednesday afternoon.

In this video, Marshall chats why he chose Ohio State, and what role he hopes to play as a freshman.

This past year, Marshall was an Under Armour All-American, and is ranked the nation?s No. 35 player in the Rivals.com Top 100 for the 2013 class.

Marshall, a first-team all-Greater Miami Conference selection this past season, had 1,421 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns and threw for 765 yards and 11 touchdowns for the Middies.

Middletown quarterback Jalin Marshall – the area’s top-rated recruit in the 2013 class at No. 35 nationally overall by the Rivals.com Top 100 – was among the first to sign Wednesday morning when he officially joined Ohio State.

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer told the Columbus media if Marshall wanted to wait to Signing Day to decide on a number of schools he could’ve done that. Instead, Marshall wanted to play in-state and he verbally committed to the Buckeyes on Jan. 30, 2012.

“Everybody knows he is one of the finest players in the country,” Meyer said, “and he’s an even better person.”

Marshall, an Under Armour All-American, is listed as a wide receiver on the Ohio State football website.

“He is ultra light on his feet and that lets him make look like everything he does is effortless,” said ScoutingOhio.com director Mark Porter said. “He is a game-changer, game-breaker, playmaker, and a very good kid.”

Been wanting to say this for a while now. I honestly think Jalin will have a similar impact on this team as Braxton Miller did as a true Freshman. These two faced off in the state playoffs, I believe it was Miller's senior season, and it absolutely did not disappoint. I was blown away with how similar Braxton and Jalin played. Now he's using that game-changing ability, and he's applying it to the WR position.....

A ?big relief? for Marshall as he signs with OSU
By Eric Frantz

LIBERTY TWP., BUTLER COUNTY ?

In putting together one of the nation?s top 2013 recruiting classes, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer made noise by searching nationwide for his haul. Of OSU?s 24 recruits, 13 were from out-of-state, including three from Texas, two from Florida and two from Georgia. The Buckeyes also signed the No. 1 prospects in New Jersey and Missouri.

But the biggest fish? He was hooked in a local pond.

?He?s an electric player. What does that mean? To me it means that he can shock you on any play,? Lakota West head coach Larry Cox said of Middletown senior quarterback Jalin Marshall. ?He?s a superior athlete. Those gems are rare.?

The Buckeyes bagged their diamond.

By the time Marshall took the podium at the Ronald Reagan Lodge on Wednesday, he already had punched a lengthy timecard. The Middletown senior signed (and faxed) his letter of intent to OSU at 7 a.m., took a phone call from Meyer, attended class, went to a ?special? signing ceremony at MHS, and then raced to make the 13th annual Greater Miami Conference National Signing Day Ceremony.

?It?s been a crazy day,? Marshall admitted. ?But it?s a big relief. It feels good to finally have it be official where you?re going.?

Article on Jalin:

.... While Marshall is listed at 190 lbs, his coach at Middletown, Troy Everhart, said in the fall that Jalin was playing at close to 220 lbs. Big Ten coaches must be already having nightmares of trying to defend a dynamic athlete who is still growing like Marshall along with speedsters Dontre Wilson and James Clark. With Clark and Wilson occupying the slot receiver positions, Marshall figures to be lining up on the outside often. With his excellent leaping ability, this allows Braxton to throw it up and trust Marshall to come down with the football. A great example of this is with the catch he made in the Under Armour game, where Marshall got himself open and jumped to make the catch on a high throw. With his previous experience at quarterback, it gives Urban Meyer the option to use Marshall in any wildcat formations that he may have up his sleeve. While it is hard to justify taking the ball out of Braxton's hands, using Marshall in the wildcat will just give defenses another wrinkle to have to prepare for. Meyer knows that if he gets the football in Marshall's hands that good things will happen. ....

Ohio State football's Jalin Marshall could make early splash

It?s not necessary for opponents to have a Denard Robinson-like shoelace deficiency for incoming Ohio State freshman Jalin Marshall to juke them out of their shoes.

Marshall ? from the same high school (Middletown High School in Middletown, Ohio) as former Buckeye Cris Carter ? is heralded for his ability to make defenders miss and get to the end zone. He was rated a five-star wide receiver by Scout.com and ranked as the 49th best player nationally in the 2013 class by ESPN.

OSU football coach Urban Meyer has described Marshall as ?one of the finest players in the country.?

When asked what makes Marshall an exceptional player, Meyer replied without hesitation, ?Everything.?

With a versatility that allows him to line up in the backfield as a running back or on the outside as a wide receiver, he has been repeatedly compared by recruiting experts to Percy Harvin ? an NFL 2009 Offensive Rookie of the Year and former player of Meyer?s at the University of Florida.

As a dynamic jack-of-all-trades player, Meyer seemed to tailor his playbook at Florida to incorporate Harvin.

The comparison could be a foreshadowing of great things to come for Marshall and the Ohio State program. Meyer used Harvin?s skill-set to help lead the Gators to two BCS National Championship victories, in 2006 and 2008, where he even occasionally used him in the quarterback position. Marshall, a standout dual-threat quarterback in high school, might give the coach d?j? vu.

However, not everyone is seeing the resemblance. Marshall?s high school coach, Troy Everhart, isn?t satisfied with the comparison to Harvin. He believes Marshall sets himself apart from Harvin, who reportedly had attitude issues throughout his career, by how he carries himself even when he?s not carrying the ball ? with character.

He attributes much of it to the family standing behind the football player.

?He?s a great kid. Raised right. Great family. Humble,? Everhart said. ?The recruiting process would be a lot easier for everyone if everyone had parents like Marshall?s. They didn?t let it become a circus. They?ve made him a well-mannered, first-rate kid.?
