WR Garrett Wilson (All B1G, 1st Team All American, 2022 OROY, New York Jets)

That's not how it works. If he goes next year and gets exactly what NJ posted for #15, that's $17,757,500 more dollars than the $0 he'd get for returning ( I don't know his NIL deals...but it's surely not that). He gets a 17mill head start.
Try reading my post first. If he goes next year, he'll get picked higher and thus make more money...period.

Why would he go higher next year? He was a high-profile commodity coming into this year. He was an absolute monster despite splitting touches with two other studs.

Next year they probably have a more consistent defense and running game to lessen the need for his production.

Olave came back as a borderline first rounder. Wilson is a surefire top 20 pick according to almost everyone, and was viewed that way last year as well as a projection for the 2022 draft.

NPV of the difference for me staying in grad school to finish my PhD vs going out ABD and making money a year and a half earlier made ABD a no brainer for me. And in Wilson’s case the absolute value of the difference accounted for over time while also considering the risk of injury and lowering his overall value also make this a no brainer. Go get fucking paid.

That’s never set. Players should ALWAYS strike while the iron is hot. It’s always selfish of fans to expect their best players to always return, thinking that an extra year will make their draft status higher. When in reality they’re just risking their bodies more, when in the end they really want to be playing in the NFL against the best in the world, and no longer being judged for earning a pay check

100%
In reality 10-15 is peaking for a WR. Top 5 picks are typically QB and linemen on both sides and an elite LB or CB thrown in. Those are the positions where you build the foundation for a team and what wins playoff games.
So I think Wilson has very little opportunity to gain, but has a lot to lose. The line failing to pass protect or an injury to himself or another key player could drop him out of the first round.

And one of the studs is gone for sure in this year's draft. Wilson be targeted a lot more with Olave gone.
There's an extremely small amount for his stock to improve. He's a pick 12-20 guy right now. Maybe if he turns in to a 20 touchdown guy he can climb into the late top 10 (and that's only if there isn't a run on quarterbacks and OTs pushing him down). There is a giant chasm of potential to slide if he's injured or doesn't play as well or any other number of factors.

I really want to see GW for one more game in the right colors. I won't begrudge him for not playing, but I wasn't prepared that a scUM loss would be his last game. That's not to suggest the loss is his weight to carry. Just that I'm gonna miss watching him play for the good guys. Been a favorite of mine since before he enrolled. Goat
