WR Emeka Egbuka (All B1G, All-American)

Ohio State's Emeka Egbuka deserves more discussion as one the country's best wide receivers

Harrison may have made more eye-catching receptions last year that helped him garner more attention, but Egbuka played a portion of the season with an injured shoulder, the reason he was not available for spring practice. Had he stayed fully healthy – or as fully healthy as wide receivers can remain throughout the course of the year – and it’s possible Egbuka is the one with the better statistical performances.

There is no doubt who the top wide receiver on the Ohio State roster and in college football is heading into the 2023 season, but Egbuka is certainly in that conversation after one year as a starter. ESPN recently ranked the top-10 receivers prior to the season and Harrison and Egbuka were No. 1 and 2 respectively, and it’s probably closer than most people think.

A CUT ABOVE. Ohio State has one of the best rosters in college football – up there with the Georgias and Alabamas of the sport. There's another talented team that hails from Ann Arbor, but we don't have to talk about them here. Not today, at least.

What makes Ohio State's roster stand out from its FBS counterparts is its top-end talent. Wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, linebacker Tommy Eichenberg and defense end JT Tuimoloau are among the best players in college football, which was proven last week when all four Buckeyes were named to Pro Football Focus' top 50 college football players ahead of 2023.

Here is where each of those players ended up in the rankings and what PFF's Max Chadwick wrote about the Ohio State stars:

NO. 17 - WR EMEKA EGBUKA

While Egbuka is the secondary option on his own team, don’t let that fool you: He’d be the top receiver for any other school in the country. Among returning Power Five receivers, only teammate Marvin Harrison Jr. tallied more receiving yards and touchdowns than Egbuka last season. The junior is also the second-most valuable returning receiver, according to PFF’s wins above average metric.

WAIT... WHAT? On Thursday, I learned that Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (and Jim Lachey's son, Luke) inked an NIL deal with Casey's, a chain of convenience stores mostly connected to gas stations in the Midwest and Southeast.
