Duron Carter (8) changed his loyalties to Ohio State last April when he visited Ohio Stadium for the first time.
Duron Carter didn't know it at the time, but moments after he was born he was staring at his college future.
The site was the Ohio State University Medical Center, March 1991. The scene was a room on the north side of the hospital. It had all been arranged by his father, Cris Carter, because of the view from the window.
"It was Ohio Stadium," Cris Carter said. "What a magnificent sight."
And what an anecdote, considering Duron Carter, a receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., signed a national letter of intent this week with Ohio State.
"You can't make it up," Cris Carter said. "And I didn't do that for the fact he was a boy. I just wanted him to see, from the beginning of his life, where my career really got started.
"And the thing about it, until about six months ago, he was the biggest Michigan fan I ever met. But he really loves the Buckeyes now, I am telling you. It's amazing."
Like someone who just quit smoking cold turkey, Duron Carter is a staunch Buckeye. Perhaps it's no coincidence that his leap from Michigan to Ohio State took place last April when he visited Ohio Stadium for the first time. Talk about a sense of dj vu.
"I changed my mind completely on that visit for the spring game," Duron Carter said. "Ohio State just blew me away. The sense of family and seeing how much football really means to the community up there all year long, it's where I wanted to play."
He let the world know about it soon enough, but he told his father first.
"I am sure he is very ecstatic with me going to Ohio State, his alma mater," Duron Carter said. "Any father would love for his son to go to his college. I think he definitely has a sense of pride knowing that I picked Ohio State."
