WR Duron Carter (Official Thread)

Duron did have a drop (on a crossing route, IIRC) but otherwise had a solid game. He was wide open well down field several other times and the QBs were off-target with their throws. Anyone else notice near the end of the game that nearly every throw was going to Duron (but the QBs still kept missing him)?

Stock report from the Under Armour All-America Game - ESPN

UP: Duron Carter, WR, Saint Thomas Aquinas/Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Ohio State

We may have been spoiled last year with prospects like A.J. Green (Georgia) and Julio Jones (Alabama) making spectacular grabs as UA All-Americans, but we still were a bit disappointed with what we saw in Orlando and overall in this 2009 wide receiver class. We did not see many game-breakers on either squad, but certainly were impressed with the hands and skill set we saw from Carter. With his future Hall of Fame father Cris in attendance during the week, Duron put on a display, making some outstanding catches reminiscent of his father. Carter displayed his soft hands, great leaping skills and body control throughout the week of practice. He consistently plucked the difficult throws in traffic with his long body and outstanding concentration. While a long-strider without great top-end speed, Carter's route running skills are ahead of the curve. Like his dad, he put on a clinic during red zone drills. Look for that skill set to get him on the field early in Columbus.

Best Hands: DURON CARTER
DURONCARTER1N08100.JPG
WR, 6-3/183, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
The son of former NFL star Cris Carter, he takes after his father on the football field. He did not miss anything in his vicinity all week and even caught balls quarterbacks thought they were throwing away. He isn't the fastest receiver in the world, but with his smart route-running ability and excellent hands, he should shine for Ohio State in the Big Ten.
Honorable Mention: WR Alshon Jeffrey, 6-3/214, St. Matthews (S.C.) Calhoun County
Stock rising: Carter
Because he plays in the talent-rich state of Florida, he was overshadowed by other players at his position most of the season. Rated as a three-star by Rivals.com, Carter proved to be the most consistent receiver in the game. A bump in the rankings for the Ohio State commitment should come in the near future.
Honorable Mention: Lewis

Duron Carter, 6-3/185, Wide Receiver, St. Thomas Aquinas, Fla.

Ohio State Commitment Carter may not be explosive, but he'll catch anything and everything thrown to him. He will go up the ladder for the tough catch. He will make the catch in traffic, and can make the diving catch. Runs crisp routes.

Duron Carter, 6-3/185, Wide Receiver, St. Thomas Aquinas, Fla.
Ohio State Commitment

Currently rated as four-stars, that number is right. However, we have him rated as the nation's No. 32-rated wide receiver prospect and that's too low after what he did all week in Orlando. Sure, he might not have blazing speed but at the end of the day, when it comes time to running routes and catching footballs, Carter was as good as there was in Orlando all week. Carter's future is big, especially as he continues getting bigger and gaining strength in his lower body to become a more explosive player. He should remain a four-star prospect but his positional rank needs to go way up.

3) WR DURON CARTER
6-3/183, Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
There was perhaps no bigger surprise during the week than this three-star prospect. Coming from great bloodlines as his father, Cris, was one of the top receivers to ever play in the NFL, Carter showed that he is a student of the game by finding open seams where others would have given up on routes. Though not the fastest receiver on the field, he had a knack for getting open and caught everything thrown his way. In practice, he dropped what would have been an acrobatic one-handed catch while being blanketed by a corner, and observers were genuinely disappointed as they had grown accustomed to seeing him haul in everything. He should see a significant jump in the next set of rankings.

Ha and there were some people on this thread questioning the offer early in the game. The thing with Duron is that he doesn't have to be a blazer because he knows how to create separation with his route running.

His skill set reminds me of a WR on our squad today, whose father had a lot of early influence on his game. This makes me happy!:biggrin:

Carter's potential
(free)

After seeing three practices in Orlando for the Under Armour game, I am convinced that Carter is one of the top wide receivers in the nation. Carter, from powerhouse Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St., Thomas Aquinas, is an Ohio State commitment and the son of Cris Carter, a former Ohio State and NFL standout. The knock on Carter is his lack of speed. While he's not a speed demon, he finds ways to get open and make plays. It didn't matter who was covering him in Orlando, Carter would make the catch.
He's a terrific route runner, especially for a high school player. Carter has good size (6 feet 3/183 pounds) and great hands, and can make the circus catch look routine. Against faster cornerbacks, he would beat his man, whether it was a long, short or intermediate route.
Barring injury, Carter has a chance to become a special player at Ohio State.

Watching the Carolina/Arizona game... I'm thinking Larry Fitzgerald here with regard to Duron's style and potential... anybody agree?

Possibly, I agree with the style, but I don't know about potential. You're comparing a high schooler to one of the best WRs in the league who is tearing it up in the playoffs. I'd love it he he was as good, but it's just too early to tell.
