Why Dane Sanzenbacher being one of leading receivers is a problem

By Sean Jensen on September 26, 2011 12:19 PM | 2 Comments | No TrackBacks

It's a nice story, Dane Sanzenbacher's rise from undrafted rookie to one of the Bears top receivers.
He leads the Bears with two receiving touchdowns, and he's tied for second with nine catches.
Sanzenbacher admitted he didn't think he'd be such a big part of the offense so early.
"I wouldn't say it's awkward," he said. "But this isn't really a sport where your individual achievements are going to overshadow you losing games. You want to be a part of an offense that is making plays and getting wins. It's great to be on the field and make those plays. But you want to win ballgames at the end of the day.
"It's something we're all striving for."

Problems like Dane should along come more often. At least the brain trust that didn't draft him now knows what a weapon he can be....for Da Bears.

Caught a couple of minutes of the game after getting home from a scouting weekend and before another scout den meeting. When my assistant den leader got to the meeting I said, "Two questions: 1) Who does not drop passes? 2) Who has hand's like stone?" His answer, knowing that I'm a Buckeye was: "1) Dane and 2) Knox." We both LOL'd.

So happy to see Dane doing well on the big stage.

Tiny Dane Sanzenbacher, the rookie free agent from Ohio State, probably will turn into a cult hero in town, but the truth is that his presence on the field shows just how bad things have gotten on offense. Cutler threw to him seven times Sunday and to putative No. 1 receiver Roy Williams four times. Williams had no catches.

"Not a lot of time with Roy," Cutler said. "It doesn't happen overnight. Missing camp, injuries. He's still a little bit sore. Until we put some time in there and we get some practices and get some reps and make us comfortable, it's hard. You can ask any quarterback that."

I am beginning to see that Dane will have another uphill battle to deal with in his new home, the media blitz. Dane makes a few catches and the media calls it a problem because the "big guns" can't. They can't run higher than their numbers and have problems catching the rock. Dane's presence on the fiield exaggerates the problem with receivers, but he's not the problem. Cutler can find him on short routes because he doesn't have time to throw it deep to Hester and Williams. Whe he does find William he doesn't catch the ball. It seems to me they are lucky to have Sanzo on the team, but there is a problem with balance. Running the ball is complemented by the ability to pass the ball. Dane is part of the equation. The other parts have yet to produce. They may call him 'Tiny', but they will never call him 'Short' on skill, heart and moxie.

Fuck 'em. The 'big guns' can show up or go home. They need to start running more sets with Dane on the field so that he becomes a bigger problem for the D. When they do that, and get some kind of a running game, the long ball will be there. Still, they'll have the 'problem' with the 'big guns' not catching the ball... but Dane will still be there bailing out Cutler on 3rd and 8/9/10.

Dane Sanzenbacher is a "bitch" to deal with.

Every single franchise in the NFL screwed up on this one. This kid isn't big, strong, overlly fast, nor does he possess the other intangibes that turn mediocre football 'PLAYERS" into high draft picks at least in the eyes of the experts that evauate talent.

JMO, but Dane will be in the NFL for a long time, and during his career will watch much better "athletes" than he is come and go, trying to take his job away from hiim.

Wish Dane ALL the luck in his career. Would love to see him in Ceveland some day!:io:

Peace

Sanzenbacher emerging as reliable target

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears' offense would be in much better shape if more players were as prepared and disciplined as undrafted rookie free agent receiver Dane Sanzenbacher.

Through three regular season games, Sanzenbacher leads the Bears with two touchdown catches, and is tied for second with nine receptions. Not bad production from a player who had to fight to earn a roster spot during training camp.

The Bears clearly think highly of Sanzenbacher, who was the only player the team made available to the media on Monday following a 27-17 home loss to the arch-rival Green Bay Packers.

"Through training camp everything is just being thrown at you," Sanzenbacher said. "You're trying to absorb all of it at the same time and put it onto the field. As you get into the season and game-planning for teams more, the playbook kind of shrinks for that week, and it becomes more of a technical thing. Your head isn't spinning as much. You're really studying the opponent as opposed to learning your own offense."

I wonder when that tool Hooley will come forward and admit he was wrong when he said Sanz was not a pro caliber receiver.

Tools like Hooley will never admit they were wrong. He is a legend in his own mind.

Sanzo is a solid reciever, and any mediot who says otherwise is just a moron.

Sanzenbacher continuing to emerge on offense
By: Larry Mayer | Last Updated: 10/1/2011

Dane Sanzenbacher never expected to play such a big role so early in his NFL career. But the undrafted rookie will once again help fill the void for the injured Earl Bennett Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.

Sanzenbacher has led Bears wide receivers in receptions each of the last two games with three for 33 yards in a loss to the New Orleans Saints and five for 27 yards in a defeat to the Green Bay Packers.

Dane Sanzenbacher leads the Bears with two touchdowns through three games.

The former Ohio State star also caught a touchdown pass in both games, becoming the first Bears undrafted rookie to do so in back-to-back contests since Marcus Anderson in 1981.

?The league is a business where you have to take advantage of your opportunities,? Sanzenbacher said. ?When your number is called, they expect you to make the play.

?One thing that?s been great about being here with this coaching staff is that if they put you on the field that means they trust you can make those plays. So you can?t really second-guess yourself when you?re out there. If you?re targeted, you?ve got to catch the ball.?

Over the last month, Sanzenbacher has transitioned from battling for a roster spot to helping the Bears try to win regular-season games. His playing time in the slot has increased dramatically since Bennett hurt his chest Sept. 18 in New Orleans.

?Your focus goes from, ?OK, do everything right, get your offense in, try to make this team,? to now wanting to contribute and help this team win,? Sanzenbacher said. ?It?s away from that worrying about making a mistake and, 'Are they going to send me home tomorrow?? It?s now on to, ?OK, we?ve got to get this together and try to get wins.??

The reason the media in Chicago isn't behind Dane is because he isn't sexy enough..Hester Knox Williams are frauds.and the media knows it..it is an embarrassment that an UFA is your best receiver thats not a knock at Dane but a condemnation of the HC and GM.
