WR Dane Sanzenbacher (Official Thread)

I don't know much about Chicago's offense to know whether it will be a good fit for Sanzenbacher. I don't feel like he's ever showcased his abilities on a wide scale. In HS, he played up in Toledo, where he won a lot in DII, but it's about the seventh level of exposure in Ohio (Cincy, Cleveland, Columbus, Canton/Massillon/Akron, Warren/Youngstown, Dayton). With the Bucks, he showed he could be the man, but we always spread the love a little bit, and Terrelle was the show, so he just showed out to be a good player. I think exhawg nailed it, though, when he called him the next Welker. He has that potential, I've always seen it. I think we all have.

Brian Hartline, a fairly good Buckeye, is now making a career of it down in Miami. I never expected much from him in the NFL, but he's listed as Miami's number two WR after Brandon Marshall on rotoworld. Having watched both of them numerous times, I don't feel I'm slighting Hartline at all to say that Dane Sanzenbacher is twice the receiver he is, and therefore seems qualified to be an NFL starter and potential NFL star. Go Dane!

Bears WR Sanzenbacher will be active vs. Falcons
By Vaughn McClure, Tribune reporter
September 10, 2011

The Bears could get a good look at one of their undrafted rookies during Sunday's season opener.

Receiver Dane Sanzenbacher will be active against the Falcons, according to multiple sources. It's not a huge surprise considering the rookie from Ohio State figured to be used in some capacity and is not a special teams contributor.

Dane Sanzenbacher, right, talks with former Ohio State teammate Brian Robiskie after the Bears beat the Browns in the preseason. ASSOCIATED PRESS CHICAGO

The veteran CYO coach stepped into the huddle like he usually did, providing direction and seeking to keep things very simple while establishing the football foundation for his anxious and wide-eyed young players.

As a group of his second and third stringers scrimmaged against the first-team defense, the coach told a fourth grader playing quarterback in a league dominated by sixth graders that on the next play they would just throw deep to the wide receiver.

But the little guy had observed how the defense lined up on the previous play, and the fledgling quarterback suggested to his coach that they consider the tight end as an option and not just throw the bomb on the outside.

"He noticed where the cornerback was playing, and he was talking about how he thought the play might develop," Our Lady of Perpetual Help coach Mark Sutter said. "And the kid was only nine years old at the time."

After eventually tearing up the CYO league, twice being named the Toledo City League player of the year at Central Catholic, and then winning the MVP award with the Ohio State Buckeyes last season, that same kid will be playing wide receiver for the Chicago Bears Sunday.

Dane Sanzenbacher's debut in the National Football League comes with Sutter's fingerprints on it. Continued

To put it simply, he's a natural - a gamer.

Dane caught a pass in the first half of the Bears win today - he got about 6 yards and went out of bounds on a first down play.

Funny, I just sat down to watch the game to see how Dane did. As I read your post, that's the play that I watched. Thanks for saving me 1/2 of football that I don't care to watch if Dane didn't have another grab.

They did have some nice things to say about him after the catch tho.

Go Dane!

After that catch, the announcers talked him up. They said he was impressive in camp and the Bears couldn't pass on him in light of typically only keeping 5 WRs. The also mentioned he was from Ohio State and was the leading receiver in the Big Ten. I wanted to see him do more, but when he had opportunities, Cutler got sacked or there was a penalty that changed their play. I'm sure there will be more to come with this rookie from tOSU. I will need a new laptop and the NFL Online game package to keep up with him. Go Dane.

Sanzenbacher is hungry as a Bear should be
Moments after his first game in the NFL, still wearing some of the gladiator-type gear of a professional football player with the Chicago Bears, former Ohio State wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher already was anticipating his next game. Sanzenbacher, who made the Bears as an undrafted free agent, was in for about a dozen plays in Chicago?s 30-12 win over the Atlanta Falcons.

Good to be hungry. Looking forward to more catches to feed this Bear's appetite.
