Mike Martz: Rookie WR Sanzenbacher 'has a chance'

By Mark Potash on August 10, 2011 2:22 PM | 1 Comment | No TrackBacks

It's not easy for a rookie wide receiver to make an impact in the NFL, especially in Mike Martz's offense. But precise route running and versatility are two qualities that can make a big difference, which is why Dane Sanzenbacher, the undrafted rookie from Ohio State, might be more than a novelty at Bears training camp in Bourbonnais.
Sanzenbacher has impressed the Bears' coaching staff with his route running. And his ability to pick up the offense at several wide-receiver positions -- primarily split end and the slot -- without any offseason preparation is sure to earn him a serious look in the preseason.

Well that was fun, I think my laptop needs to be water cooled to keep up with all the Dane stories. Go Bucks, this is better that all that TP news and Tat 5 crap.

A BEARS fan speaks:

Dom G | August 10, 2011 5:23 PM | Hell ya baby! SAN-ZEN-BA-CHER! Come on man you can do it! This kid is flat out a football player to the fullest I was so excited when we got this kid! This guy can be a pro bowler I see Wes Welker in him, hes so quick and tough kid has no fear what so ever he is exactly what a Bear should be.....please please make the team because if we put him on the scout team another team will snatch him up a 2 seconds! DO THIS KID DO IT...! YOU CAN BE A GREAT ONE! *BEAR NATION*

These are the type of guys who would have done great on a developmental team if they could not make the roster as the 6th WR. Hell, Tebow is that kind of guy too. Wish they still had those - or the NFL Europe again.

Martz likes multi WR sets. Dane could the 6th on this team. He will be productive. I believe Tebow will be too in the right offense.

Sanzenbacher garnering attention of Bears
As a rookie trying to make it in the NFL, everything comes at you so fast -- the game accelerates, the playbook thickens, the options out of every formation grow exponentially, and the pressure ramps up. In this year when the lockout compressed the whole preparation process, it's been auditions in the express lane for a free agent such as former Ohio State MVP, wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher, who is trying to catch on with the Chicago Bears

Tillman wasn?t the only Bears defender to pick off a pass Thursday. Rookie third-round safety Chris Conte and first-year linebacker Patrick Trahan intercepted backup quarterback Caleb Hanie.
"We're getting better," Tillman said of the defense. "The last few days we've capitalized. One of the biggest things we try to do on defense is just be more consistent in taking advantage of the opportunities when they present themselves to us."

Both Bears quarterbacks followed their interceptions with two touchdown passes. Cutler hit Williams on a quick slant and rookie receiver Dane Sanzenbacher over the middle, while Hanie connected with tight end Desmond Clark and receiver Kris Adams both in the right corner of the end zone

Well Tillman didn't take it away from Sanzo...

2. If one free-agent addition hits it big, the Bears hope it's Roy Williams. They put a bigger emphasis on wide receivers when tight end Greg Olsen was traded, and they're counting on Williams to be the big-time playmaker he wasn't with the Cowboys. Can Williams establish the chemistry with Jay Cutler that the quarterback hasn't found in two seasons here?

When the starters are out: Maybe Dane Sanzenbacher didn't dazzle during the first two weeks of camp, but he made nearly every play that came his way. He could continue to make a push for the 53-man roster with strong exhibitions.

7:00 PM tonight on Fox TV in Chicago land or WBBM Radio. NFL Network is replaying the game at 7:00 pm on Sunday in Toledo on Buckeye Cable.

I cannot believe nobody drafted him. Still. Watch his film, do some fucking homework. All these retards look at are measurables these days. That's why there are countless WR busts drafted every year in the first three rounds. Because they're "fast". :shake:
