WR Corey "Philly" Brown (Official Thread)

The Under Armour Hands Competition followed with each participant standing on a spot on the field surrounded by four JUGS machines that were firing the ball in fastball fashion at every turn, before finishing with a short run and catch obstacle course.

The competition came down to the final pair of contestants with Corey Brown (Springfield, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) narrowly beating future Alabama corner DeMarcus Milliner (Millbrook, Ala./Stanhope Elmore) by .05 seconds.

"It was fun. I didn't expect to win that one," Brown said. "On the first one, I dropped almost every one but the last one. I actually thought I lost until I heard my name."

Brown, the fourth and final player to qualify in Wednesday's prelims, bested Kadron Boone (Ocala, Fla/Trinity Catholic) and Brandon Coleman (Forestville, Md./Bishop McNamara), along with Milliner, to take the trophy.

With Lamar Thomas officially gone and Small gone too, looks like there should be some openings for Mr. Brown as soon as he steps on campus at KR/PR.

I liked Thomas because of his speed when he came out of HS but Brown has the same wheels but has the HS productivity to back it up. I can see Brown having an impact in the return game that we haven't seen in awhile.

JMO, but I think we will most likely see guys like Jordan Hall, Jamaal Berry and James Jackson, guys who have already been in the program for a year, get a shot returning the ball, before a true Freshman would.

I remember reading somewhere before the Rose Bowl that Tress was talking about Jordan Hall possibly getting some action in the return game.

After watching Jordan Hall this year, I think he has to get some touches. He just seems explosive and his change of direction is very good. I would like to see him with the ball more next year, however that can happen. If Berry is even better than Hall I am feel sorry for our opponents. Go Bucks

Lamar Thomas was back there as true frosh. I'm also pretty sure it was reported that all three of those guys you mentioned were given looks at the return spot in fall camp as true frosh so I don't see why Mr. Brown wouldn't get the same chance.

Besides we all know tOSU plays who will be the most effective regardless of class rank.

any chance this kid plays running back?, or has he made it clear that he just wants to play receiver?

He has made it clear the OSU staff will let him play wherever can get him on the field the quickest...

Corey Brown, RB/DB, Cardinal O'Hara, Ohio State. 6-1, 195. He's a lockdown cornerback who, when healthy, is as explosive as anyone as a runner. For the second time in his career, he was slowed this season by a knee injury. In addition to rushing for 1,146 yards and 11 TDs, he was a terrific kick returner.
