WR Carnell Tate (Official Thread)

Tennessee working to get 4-star Ohio State WR commit Carnell Tate on campus this weekend

Prior to his commitment to Ohio State in June, four-star IMG Academy (Fla.) wide receiver Carnell Tate was strongly considering the Buckeyes and Tennessee as his top two schools.

Ultimately, it was Ohio State who won out, but the Volunteers haven’t given up their pursuit of him.

Sources tell On3 that as of today, Tennessee is expected to host Tate on campus for an unofficial visit this weekend when No. 3 Alabama comes to Knoxville. The trip, if it happens, would be his first known visit to any program other than Ohio State since he announced his commitment.

The 6-foot-2, 178-pounder visited the Buckeyes in September and is scheduled to make an official visit to Columbus on Oct. 22. He previously visited the Volunteers in April for an official visit alongside five-star Tennessee QB commit Nico Iamaleava, and this trip will be his fourth time in Knoxville as a recruit.

Just confirmed from Birm and Clint Cosgroves at Rivals, that Carnell is no longer taking visits
Birm's rationale is that Carnell has no reason to visit if he has no intention of enrolling there. He will make his official visit to OSU next weekend for the Iowa game

Birm said he didn’t want to cause drama. Which is a little sad if you think about it. Kid can’t go on a once in a lifetime experience because of what fanatics will say to him and stir up drama because he wanted to go see a top 10 matchup.

I didn't see it like that personally, and I didn't see Birm mention that Tate didn't want to cause drama. He's been to UT on multiple occasions, not sure what else he needs to see there. Yeah the game would be cool, but I'm sure when/if he visits for The Game it'd be even bigger experience.
But from what I've heard, the OSU coaches don't care about commits visiting other schools, as long as their kept in the loop. Jelani Thurman has visited Auburn multiple times(family), as well as Mich St last week(family), Noah Rogers has been to NC State too

I don’t want to screenshot the actual post because it’s behind their paywall. But he basically said what you said, but added the drama. He doesn’t see the need to visit since he knows he isn’t going there and cause unnecessary drama.

I’m sure The Game will be a great experience for him. But if he can go to a free game in one of the best environments in all of college football, why should that create drama? That’s not on him. That’s on the fans hanging on to everything these guys do. It’s clearly unhealthy.

Yeah I agree, it sucks. And what sucks even more is that fans on every side would be all over him on social media.
