Cleveland Browns select OSU's Brian Robiskie

BEREA -- The Browns used the first of their three second-round draft choices on Ohio State receiver Brian Robiskie, son of the former Browns assistant coach Terry Robiskie.

This may or may not support mounting speculation that a trade of Braylon Edwards is still in the works with the Giants. The Giants would give up second- and third-round picks, plus a receiver.

The Browns also have picks No. 50 and No. 52 in the second round.

Robiskie learned of the selection sitting with his father and family in Atlanta.

"It's unbelievable," Robiskie said. "Just the connection I have with that team, to come back and be a part of that team, that franchise ... I feel so blessed. I'm excited about it."

Terry Robiskie was a Browns assistant coach from 2001 through '06. For three years, the younger Robiskie spent his summers as a Browns ballboy at training camp.

"From this day forward, I'm just a father. I've got to let him go now," Terry Robiskie said. "I think he's a terrific football player. I don't want to get too high on him. I think he's got the capability of making plays and doing the things Braylon Edwards can do. He's been around him. He can compete like that. I think he's got a chance to rise to that level. It's going to be exciting."

CLEVELAND ? When Brian Robiskie was a Cleveland Browns ball boy as a teenager, his duties included handling the team?s dirty laundry. Now, he?s going to try to help the team clean it up on the field, too.

The Browns took Robiskie in the second round (36th overall), maybe appeasing some fans by taking a Buckeye and a kid who grew up in Northeast Ohio. One of the last players offered a scholarship by Jim Tressel in 2005, Robiskie was a fan favorite in Columbus and is no stranger to the Browns.

?I guess it?s almost like coming home,? said Robiskie?s father, Terry, a former Cleveland assistant and interim head coach, now with the Atlanta Falcons. ?He?s going back to the No. 1 city I coached in ... the city I fell in love with. The fans are unbelievable.?

Receiver was a need for the Browns. The team traded tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. and released injured veteran Joe Jurevicius. Dont? Stallworth is facing DUI manslaughter charges in Miami, and Braylon Edwards has been offered as trade bait. There?s a likelihood that Robiskie will play early.

?Braylon Edwards is a tremendous receiver,? Brian Robiskie said. ?I can play inside, outside. Whatever they need me to do. I want to come up there and help them.?

Brian Robiskie graduated from Chagrin Falls High School but wasn?t highly recruited receiver. Robiskie flourished in Columbus and played opposite of GlenOak graduate Brian Hartline.

?He has the capability to make plays and do some of the things Braylon Edwards can do,? Terry Robiskie said when asked to give a scouting report of his son. ?He knows those guys. He?s been around Braylon Edwards. He knows Braylon Edwards? thought process. He can compete like that. He has a chance to rise to that level.?
