THE DIFFERENCE MAKER: Chagrin Falls' Brian Robiskie

Receiver's talent comes with a lot of catches

Chagrin Falls senior Brian Robiskie enjoys going fishing, but the only thing on his mind right now is catching the football. And he's done an outstanding job of it.

Rated one of the top receivers in Ohio, the 6-3, 190-pounder enters Friday's key Chagrin Valley Conference Chagrin Division game against visiting West Geauga with 28 receptions for 435 yards and seven touchdowns.

The three-year starter with the soft hands can do it all.

"We've run some end- arounds with him and he blocks well out of the backfield," Tigers coach Mark Iammarino said. "He's got two intercep tions [one for a touch down] at cornerback and a 90-yard touchdown re turn on a punt."

In a huge CVC victory over Perry two weeks ago, Robiskie showed his passing prowess while running a reverse, throwing a bomb that was right on the money but was dropped.

"I like playing offense because there's a lot of things for me to do there," said Robiskie, the oldest of three sons of Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Terry Robiskie and his wife, Cynthia.

"And offense is where I'll play in college."

Robiskie has gained the interest of a number of big-time programs as a wideout. The University of Miami (Fla.) has offered him a scholarship, and he'll visit Southern California and Ohio State.

Robiskie is known for running excellent routes and his fearlessness for catching the ball over the middle. The only question in his résumé is his 4.56-second time in the 40-meter dash. It's a misleading point since Robiskie turns 17 in December, so there's more anticipated growth.

His relentless work ethic could improve his speed.

"His brother, Andrew, is a 6-0, 235-pound sophomore center on the varsity," Iammarino said. "He always tells me he wants to be as good as his brother. I keep telling him he will be if he continues to work as hard as Brian."

none as of lately, but I still feel if offered he will be a buckeye. I think he is on the back burner for now, while we wait on lymon and if he falls through then maybe Brian could get an offer. I don't know who else the coaches are looking at. Brian is a great kid from all I have heard and hopefully he has success wherever he goes. My guess is he goes to Cryami.

I can't believe the likes of usc and miami are offering him. You would just think they have bigger fish to fry. I don't if they are going on him being around football all his life or what. If he was that good of reciever I would just think that the recruting services would have him ranked higher and we would be pursuing him harder. Just hope the coaches don't miss this the boat on this one.

First Official Visit Upcoming For Robiskie
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chris Nida
BuckeyeSports.com Staff Writer

Sunday was a big day for the Robiskie family, as the patriarch, Terry Robiskie, served as the head coach of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns in an interim capacity as a replacement for the recently deposed Butch Davis.

This is also a big time of year for the Robiskies, as their eldest son, Brian Robiskie, is a highly-recruited wide receiver out of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, who is beginning to get into the heart of the recruiting process.

This coming weekend, Robiskie is set to visit Miami (Fla.), who has offered the 6-3, 190-pounder. The weekend after that, he will visit USC, who has shown consistent interest. After the new year, his coach said that he may also take a visit to Stanford, who is in the market for a new head coach after the firing of Buddy Teevens.

“We talked to (Stanford wide receivers coach Ken) Margerum and he asked for film so we sent film out there,” Chagrin Falls head coach Mark Iammarino told BuckeyeSports.com. “He’s kind of interested in who the new coach will be out there. There’s rumors that it could be (USC offensive coordinator) Norm Chow, and Norm and Terry are good friends, so he’s keeping them on his radar screen.”

Robiskie, rated the nation’s No. 58 wide receiver and the No. 20 player in Ohio by Rivals.com, was also on the Buckeyes’ radar screen earlier this year. Defensive backs coach Mel Tucker stayed in regular contact with Robiskie during Chagrin Falls’ season, but Iammarino said that he himself had not heard much from the Buckeyes recently.

However, he believes that Robiskie would still be interested in Ohio State if the feeling was mutual.

“He’s going to take that (Miami) visit and then see what happens out at USC,” Iammarino said. “I think he would take a visit (to Ohio State) if he was called down. He told me at one point that Miami, USC and Ohio State were his three favorites.”

Robiskie did everything his coach could have asked of him on the field this season. He earned first-team All-Ohio honors in Division IV after catching 48 passes for nearly 800 yards and 14 touchdowns, setting all of Chagrin Falls’ single-season and career receiving records in the process.

The Tigers finished the year 9-3, falling to eventual Division IV state champion Youngstown Cardinal Mooney in a regional semifinal. Against Mooney, Robiskie caught 7 passes for 66 yards and Chagrin Falls’ only two scores of the day, which Iammarino said was typical of Robiskie.

“Wherever we would go teams would always look for him -- `Where’s Robiskie? Where’s No. 80?’ ” Iammarino said. “He would never disappoint. He was most impressive against Mooney. The Mooney quarterback, (Kyle) McCarthy, covered him man-for-man all over the place. He still caught 7 balls for two touchdowns, made a tremendous catch on a fade in the corner, ran two reverses for big yards and played D. He had his biggest game against the most talented team we played.”

That was the type of performance Iammarino had come to expect during the four years Robiskie was one of his charges.

“The thing about Brian is he’s so reliable,” the coach said. “He’s a big-time player. In the big games he would never hide. He was there when we needed him most.

“If it was a situation where he was a running back or quarterback who had the ball in his hands on every play, he would just be incredible … He does the blocking and all the kind of things that don’t show up. He had a fantastic year.”
