WR Brian Robiskie (Official Thread)

I'm not a big fan of him as our PR. I'd prefer Wells, Saine, or Small. He's not very shifty and doesn't have the acceleration of those 3 I mentioned. I won't write him off yet since he's only had one game but I think we have better options.

Well... no knock on the other guys-- because I dont' know how they'd do... but... catching the ball is the first part of returning punts.

Both Maurice and Saine were back on kick-offs so I naturally assumed they'd be capable of also fielding punts. I know they're very different and it is harder returning punts because you have guys flying all around you while you try to catch it but I'm sure they could learn.

I'm not sure I see the PR shiftiness in Saine, whereas I'm dying to see him get regular KRs, as he has the 6th gear our starters lack.

Until we see more consistent depth shining at WR, I'll be concerned about our "franchise" WR returning punts.

I had no problem at all trying to catch a kickoff but I couldn't field a punt for the life of me. On a kickoff you have more of a linedrive kick and you really don't have to watch to see how far the coverage is downfield. It's a bit nerve-racking to watch a punt hang in the air and have to keep checking how close to coverage is. So your correct but it is much harder to field a punt.

Well... I think maybe the line of thinking from Tress is... "Until we see more consistency in our Punt Returns, We're gonna use our "Franchise Receivere there"

At any rate... agree, either way... and... hopefully... Ray Small will be healthy enough to handle those responsibilities soon... assuming he was supposed to be the PR all along. Otherwise.... hopefully someone else can handle it. Until then, I tend to think we'll play "Ball Control" in that spot until further notice.

Good thing there is no way he can go first round this year with all the other recievers possibly coming out in the draft, other wise if he continued at this pace he would be gone.

And just why wouldn't Robo be a first-round pick in the next draft? Gonzo didn't have squat for stats and he still ended up being a 1st-round pick. Last year's draft picked six WRs in the first round...Robo can definitely end up being in the top 5-6 WRs regardless of how many come out for the draft.

...and his dad is a member of the NFL coaching fraternity. That can't hurt.

How much it helps is anybody's guess. At the very least, it's made him what he is today. It seems likely that coaches lobbying for kids from within, especially their own, makes a difference.

To many recievers with more pub right now, im not saying he does not have the talent, just that there are lots of recievers that have gotten media attention, just to name a few, Adaleus Johnson from the other OSU, Desean Jackson from Cal, P. Turner from USC, Limas Sweed Texas, Monk Ark, the reciever from Kentucky, and even the reciever from Purdue, Now if he goes over 1,000 yrds, 10 TD's we might have to seriously consider him leaving after this season.

Patrick Turner.. has he even played this year.. cant say Ive watched all of the USC games, but when i have, i havent seen him do anything..

Dorien Bryant has nothing on Robo.. ditto with the kid who is injured from Arkansas..

I think he's a late first rounder, early second right now.. but i pray he sticks around.. getting tired of losing every single one of our juniors each yr

Early Doucet, Mario Manningham, That kid from Florida whose name I can't remember...

Anyway... I wouldn't worry much about Rob leaving early... there is a resume issue when you lack blazing speed... (and he can run, no doubt but he's not Ted Ginn or Terry Glenn).

So, I think its probably in his best interest to hang out a bit... and I'd say he's going to still have to prove it against big time competition to move to the first round...

Of course... that might just be a big game in a BCS bowl away.

So, NFL coaches make their picks based solely on media hype...right.
