WR Anthony Gonzalez (2005 All B1G, US Congressman)

Gonzo had a good showing today despite the loss. He had 5 catches for 48 yards (9.6 AVG).

From my perspective, it was not a particularly good showing at all. Gonzo dropped a couple easy ones last night. He did catch the five, but should have had more. He'll make up for it.

Huge game for Gonzo today vs. the Vikings. 9 receptions for 137 yards. Made a critical play in the late 3rd quarter, caught a long pass from Manning then lateraled to Reggie Wayne who took it for another 17 yards down to the 1. It was very risky, but probably game-saving, considering the Colts really needed points at that point in the game. Overall it might have been the jolt that the Colts O needed and they came back and won the game. Shows me he's willing to do anything to get the extra yard...he'll probably be discouraged from attempting the lateral stuff in the future though. :tongue2:

Pleasant Surprises

Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Indianapolis - So what if Marvin Harrison is back and playing. It's obvious that Reggie Wayne is the first option and Gonzalez is the second for Peyton Manning. The former Ohio State Buckeye leads the team with 185 yards receiving after his big nine-catch performance in Week 2.

Colts receiver Anthony Gonzalez starts a 58-yard sprint Sunday afternoon after catching a 3rd-and-6 pass from Peyton Manning in the third quarter Sunday against the Vikings. It was only the beginning of one of the strangest plays by the Indy team in several seasons. - Heather Charles / The Star
Gonzalez's lateral to Wayne a thriller

Don't expect Colts to put this one into their playbook.

MINNEAPOLIS -- It appeared to be a bolt of genius. Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez was inclined to regard it as dumb luck.
"That probably was one of the dumber things I've ever done, but it worked out," Gonzalez said. "I'm not sure what was going on in my head. Thank God it worked out."

Gonzalez was unimpressed.
"It was just an OK day," he said. "From a technique and a route-running standpoint, I just think it was OK."
From a team standpoint, he regarded it as quite another.
"This was huge," Gonzalez said. "We needed this in the worst way."

Colts have high hopes for OSU's Gonzalez

When the Indianapolis Colts drafted wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez out of Ohio State in the first round of the 2007 NFL draft, many draft prognosticators deemed the selection as the perfect fit. They appear to be on point.
Gonzalez, in his second-year with the team, is starting to come into his own. With veteran wideout Marvin Harrison no longer the deep receiving threat he once was before suffering a knee injury in 2007, the team's offense has turned to Gonzalez in hopes that he can pick up the slack.
There are those who believe that Gonzalez is being groomed as the heir apparent to Harrison, who missed 11 games last season with a knee injury and appears to be at the end of his career.
The Colts offense is starting to reap the benefits of the young receiver's performance. Gonzalez had a breakout game against Minnesota when he hauled in nine receptions for 137 yards. However, the humble receiver downplayed the performance by saying that he had an "okay" day.
"I still think that," Gonzalez said. "After watching it, I think that even more. It's just little technique things. You can see it on film. Numbers can certainly lie to you if you get fascinated with them.Technique-wise, I thought I did better in the Chicago game than in the Minnesota game. But from a production standpoint, obviously that wasn't the case.
