And most of their scoring "drives" on offense were 10 yards or less and set up by turnovers or special teams returns. What would the DSO score be just w/o the defensive scores. Of course maybe FIU is also 'benefitiing' from non-offense scores and short fields.
I'd also argue that 'worst' doesn't just mean lowest stats. FIU's offense should be inept, they're one of the worst, least talented teams in division 1-A (despite all the Florida speed that must be on that team). NoD has far more talent available than FIU and is coached by the greatest* offensive genius ever and led by the best emu in high school football history. Yet NoD is threatening to set records for offensive futility. NoD's offense should at least be with in the top half of 1-A schools (in either basic stats or differential).

The question isn't "the most underperforming unit", it is "the worst unit". By pointing out that FIU is the only worse unit in the country, I was taking a jab at ND for underperforming; a jab that Jax' picked up on immediately.
But it is absolutely undeniable that FIU is the worst offense in the country.
ND has produced 14 or more points in 4 of their last 5 games against BC, UCLA, Purdue and MSU. While not all of those points were scored by the offense, let's at least observe that ND's offense has benefitted from 5 more turnovers than has FIU's this season (18 vs. 13).
And while we're on the subject of turnovers, ND has coughed up the ball 17 times this season. That's pretty bad.
FIU has turned the ball over 29 times against a sun belt schedule. That's worse than pretty bad... by a lot.
And oh yeah, FIU has scored 14 points or more only twice this season (not 4 times). And they managed it only against Troy's backups in a blow out (a stellar 16 point effort) and against La. Monroe (not BC, UCLA, Purdue and MSU).
When it comes to bad offense, it is FIU that is on the verge of setting all-time records for futility; not ND.
But rather than miss the "Beat on Ntre ame" bandwagon, let me close with this:
If we narrowed our search to the worst unit in terms of just rushing or just passing, then the Irish rushing offense wins in a landslide. They are managing just over HALF of the yards per carry of the 118th team in the country, Duke. They are literally almost twice as bad as the 2nd worst team in rushing offense.
