Yep. I was charged $225 twice for excess baggage (1 extra bag of gear and 1 weapon case). Went on my government travel credit card. I had to fly commercial air from Co. Springs to Florida for a training course and then from FL to Norfolk to catch my rotator into Quatar.ScriptOhio;1229431; said:Troops pay baggage fees on way to war zones
(CNN) -- Some airlines are charging U.S. soldiers extra baggage fees to take their military kits with them as they set off for war.
Military personnel carry large, heavy kit bags containing boots, clothing and gear. In the past few months, airlines have instituted fees for all travelers ranging from $15 for one bag to $250 for a third bag.

In the AF you file it with your travel voucher which pays off your government card.OCBuckWife;1229436; said:Troops receive baggage authorization "chits" up front. If they don't they can also request reimbursement for the fees. Either way, they don't actually pay them.
Agreed.scooter1369;1229673; said:While sitting in a war zone, should a Marine be expected to be filling out forms for reimbursement for the money he had to spend to get he and his gear there?
At least he''l have enough light as the mortars come in and light up the sky.
Unfortunately, doesn't work that way. You have to file paperwork and hope your homebase finance office (thousands of miles away) doesn't fuck it up (which they are prone to doing). I filed my voucher a couple weeks after arriving here and it took them another month, and me resending it twice because they kept losing it, before it was payed. It's a hassle.OCBuckWife;1229676; said:No, his company admin S1 should be doing it. That is what they are for.![]()
