Well, Avery John and T&T just got robbed bigtime with that red card at the beginning of the second half. How do you get sent off for a totally clean tackle? It was a hard tackle, but that's not of consequence. It was clean.

Also, the T&T manager has to be a first-ballot inductee in the Gene Keady Combover Hall of Fame.

Its especially bad as the Singapore based referee signalled early in the game that the two teams could go at it.

T-n-T down to 10 men holds Sweden to a goal-less draw. They should all thank Shaka Hislop who played a whale of game in goal.

Sweden retains their record of NEVER having won a world cup opener. :tongue2:

The commentary for the Ivory Coast - Argentina match has been the best I've heard so far from ESPN/ABC.
They sound like Max Kellerman and Dick Vitale. Pretty annoying.

If they give the Dutch as much space as they gave Argentina, they're going to get embarrassed.

TnT was severely outmatched, but Hislop looked like he turned back the clock.

The one consistent theme for the African teams is that they always fall foul of lack of discipline. This is one reason why I believe it is much better that the US is playing Ghana last, rather than first.

As for the Ivory Coast being a surprise, only if they get their shit together - and they have big games coming up against the Dutch and Serbia-Montenegro.

The Argentinians showed as being better than some imagined might be the case. But, I suspect they could lose both their remaining games, could, not will.

The only chance for CIV to advance is if they have someone new in midfield serving up feeds for their main striker, and win both games against the Dutch and the other half of what was once the Yugo squad. That isn't going to happen, because CIV will fall foul of the plight that afflicts many African teams (cumulative yellow cards), and because they do not have someone to feed that ball to Drogba. And because both opponents are - on paper - better than CIV.

And jlb - yes the commentary for this game was much better.
