Has the paint dried yet? If the World Series featured seven extra inning zero - zero ties they'd yank it off the networks. I'll get interested in soccer when they make the goalies play on their knees or let the players hit the ball with their hands.
France plays solid defense once again, and gets a PK from Zidane to down Portugal 1-0. It was too bad the only goal came on a PK call, made when Henry was changing direction just inside the top of the box and the defender caught the ankle of his back leg.
France and Italy in the final. The odds of that happening had to be incredibly high after they won 1 of their first 4 combined games in the tournament.
The old adage for sports will hold true in this World Cup - defense wins championships.
Yet, you were interested enough to share this terse assessment on the game with us all.Has the paint dried yet? cincibuck what you are griping about is a result of unintended consequences... The result, long lingering death from stifling play. Why? Because the underlying causes of stultifying play have never been correctly addressed. (Nor will they be with Blatter et al stewarding FIFA).
... Diving and Feigned Injuries that Stifle the Flow of the Game.
I hate it when I see this kind of crap going on. It is not how I learnt to play the game, it provides an awful example that is whiny, effete and frankly unethical.
did you watch the game yesterday? There was a lot of action/offense.A game hopelessly hung up on its own petard. I actually enjoy high school soccer. Moeller has had an excellent coach... who provided me with two of my best 400 - 800 runners... and they played a very exciting brand of the game, but World Cup leaves me flat.
it's a necessary evil, but I hate games being decided on PK's.
What I don't understand is the aggressive hate for soccer. I don't like watching the NBA but whenever it comes on I don't cry about it like a baby.
Not in the least. I don't care for NBA. I don't care for rugby. I don't care for cricket.cincibuck said:You talkin' to me? Sorry. I don't care for soccer. There's not enough scoring and the game often seems tedious with way too much time being killed. The fact that you have a ball and the only way you can move it is with the feet seems counterintuitive and detracts from what could otherwise be an exciting game.
Does that help?
I didn't call it stupid. But the poll asked me to express an opinion about soccer and the World Cup and I did... however, for the record, cricket IS stupid. Not in the least. I don't care for NBA. I don't care for rugby. I don't care for cricket.
I also don't go tell the fans of those things how stupid their sport is.
I actually enjoy high school soccer.............. but World Cup leaves me flat.
