Own goal ties it up!

(And as for the 0-14-1 record when scored on first - all streaks are made to be broken.)

Man - Red card - Italy down to 10 men, he'd given a rough elbow to McBride's face DeRossi (sp?)

If De Rossi's was a red card, so was that - (fact is any other league, any other game they are both yellow cards).

Revising the Pop poll - which team will finish with the most players on the field?

The last time I saw an abortion of a match like this was when Mn U was in one of those late 60's South American vs Europe team contests.

Beasley has got to take the game to the Italian D - he is one of the few in white with fresh legs.

This just in - the ref didn't make it to the last World Cup - he was under suspension for "irregularities"

Perhaps they should have just made the ban permanent.

These pithy comments from the bbc.co.uk site tells you what the rest of the world thought of the refs piss-poor performance today ..

82 mins: Jorge Larrionda of Uruguay still has 10 minutes or so to make history. Never before have four men been sent off in a World Cup finals match.

47 mins: RED CARD
The Uruguayan referee is throwing his cards around like confetti. Eddie Pope catches Alberto Gilardino and receives a second booking and his marching orders.

PLAYER RATER Which red card offence was worse? According to you, Daniele De Rossi's elbow which gets 81.8% of the vote.

45 mins: RED CARD
It is 10 v 10. Pablo Mastroeni is sent off for a sliding lunge on Andrea Pirlo. His studs caught the Italian on the ankle. Coach Bruce Arena is furious on the touchline

PLAYER RATER: Should Daniele De Rossi have been sent off? 83% of you think so.

"He should get a five or six-match ban for that. He shouldn't play again in the tournament. It was the act of a coward."
Chris Waddle, BBC Five Live Sport

28 mins: RED CARD
Midfielder Daniele De Rossi is off for throwing an elbow at Brian McBride on the halfway line. There's claret all over the Fulham striker's face but he is back on his feet and the physios are doing a good cleaning up job on the touchlines.

Given recent news items I sure Franz was mightily ticked off - but biting his tongue.

I thought De Rossi's and Pope's bookings were correct, Pope could've actually been sent off late in the 1st, but Mastroeni's straight red was a little iffy, as was Totti's yellow. Either way, it was a victory for Blatter and his quest to completely eliminate defensive technique and strategy from international soccer.

And the rest of the world wonders why the US has problems with Soccer uptake?

My kids are avid soccer heads and it was impossible for me to explain this match to them:

-reffing, they just don't understand why slide tackles are red cards...even if late.
--Pope; "dad, why does that man grab so much and why is he always getting beaten?"
--Beasley;"dad, that guy is playing just as lazily as he did against the czechs...what gives?"
--McBride; "dad, aren't these players good enough to use BOTH feet?"
--Convey;"dad, is #15 afraid to score?"
