WooHoo Got a Job Offer!!!

Congrats on the offer. My roommate works for Northrop Grumman as a mechanical engineer helping design nuclear aircraft carriers, and really loves working there.

Being torn between a bunch of attractive offers is a good problem to have.

Thanks JC, and you're right, it's a good problem to have and one I was going for from the start.

Goodyear, you can handle, but I bet NJ makes you take down his Christmas tree as penance. :p

Golf - congrats! If you want a nickles worth of free advice from someone whos been through the ringer at least a little bit, here is something that was passed down to me some time ago from one of the most successful people at my firm, and I have found it to be quite useful.

Four simple rules -

1) Work hard
2) Be nice
3) Never do anything to make your group look bad
4) Never do anything to make your firm look bad.

As simple as they sound, if you follow those four I bet you will be pretty darn successful.

Great list but left off the most important rule in being successful:

5) Never bet on Cleveland.

In all seriousness... all things being equal (and they're not)... the Grumman job has more futuristic benefits to your resume/career... security clearance is a huge benefit on resumes... and red hot in the job market place now and in the next decade...

"National defense and antenna/radar design is exactly what I'd like to do.".. then DO IT... follow your heart.. and go for the PLAYCHECK instead of the PAYCHECK.. the best times in my life were when I couldn't wait to go to sleep because I couldn't wait to wake up and get at it... when you love what you're doing.. you get there at 7AM and 30 minutes later it's already 5PM...

You don't need to be sugary sweet to anyone you turn down... Your reply could be... "I am lucky enough that I have multiple offers at hand, and I've chosen the one that best fits my goals and objectives at this time.. I sincerely appreciate your fabulous opportunity but I must pass at this time"

And BTW... you weren't gonna get on Firestone anyway... someone with a very expensive membership has to 1) invite you and 2) like you enough to pay $165 in green fees for you... there will be opportunites to go via suppliers... but your bosses are taking those... "the project needs you" .. haaaa

Me -- damn.. I've golfed there so many times I can't count.. and it was friggin FABULOUS... plus your ego might have taken a big hit when you find out good golfers shoot 100 on Firestone... I loved to watch 10 handicappers score 103 the week after the tournament... Grumman has an outstanding par 3 8-hole course that you can play every other Thursday from October thru April...
