Women's WC Final, USA vs Japan, Sunday 2 ET

Just glad they lost a good team rather than those bitches from Brazil, had to be the cleanest soccer game i've ever seen

This. Exactly. It was a great game, depressing ending for the US. It was beautiful to watch a game where people weren't flopping/diving all over the place and both teams showed actual sportsmanship.

On a more important note, I really don't like penalty kicks as a way to decide the game. As any real soccer fan will tell you, they are mostly luck and often don't result in the "best" team winning. Either go back to golden goal, first team to score in overtime wins or just play until someone has a lead at the end of the quarter/half.

Have you given any thought to forming a fan board with X-Ray Randy?

I haven't looked, but I'm guessing the commentary from some in the American media is that penalties are a terrible way to decide a World Cup final (perhaps not having that opinion if the U.S. had won).

But some in the media had that same view last weekend when the U.S. beat Brazil, so who knows.

It's hard to not at least appreciate the way Japan played in the tournament and their plight back home (with the earthquake/tsunami).

Wish the team could've held onto those two leads.

I still call special section in the SI swimsuit issue for the women's team.

I'm as much of a fan of penalty kicks as I am shootouts in hockey - I hate them both. It's totally different than the game itself. More of a luck thing than skill thing. Obviously there is skill involved, but it's all based on a guess. It takes the game from a team game to an individual contest. But I do realize that you can't continue playing such physically demanding sports forever, so I don't really know what the alternative would be. I do like how in hockey they don't go to shootouts in the playoffs. Just continuous OT until someone scores.

Nothing bad to say about Japan. Congrats to them, and the great run the US team made. Now, American media... Hope Solo.... MOARRR

I remember thinking that the U.S. would have a huge advantage on penalties because of the goalie comparison and this being Japan's first shootout (ever).

But at the least, put the shot on frame to force a save.

I think Boxx was either in-different with her shot or caught the ball with her heel. Tobin Heath looked like she didn't have confidence.

I just hope some "loudmouth" media members (there will be a few) don't bury the team too bad. It's a shootout. I personally watched Korea beat Spain in the 2002 World Cup on penalties. Funny things happen in shootouts.

That offer from GoDaddy is still on the table. But it will just be a tease campaign like Danica Patrick (which isn't bad).

I was thinking Alex Morgan would be the cover girl coming out. She's on the Coke cans for next summer's Olympics (not Solo).

My buddy and I have bets going on when she'll (Alex Morgan) dump her boyfriend with the Sounders and move onto like an NFL QB or something (I have under 8 mo.).

I hope that Hope Solo is classier than GoDaddy. Their commercials are so cheesy and lame no matter how nice the ladies are in them. I'm guessing she'll make a lot of money on endorsements with sports-related stuff.. Nike or whatever sponsors the team.

(No pun intended with the use of the word "hope" :p)

I already posted this, but this line stood out upon reading parts again.

One thing is for sure, if the US team falls short of winning the Cup, they can kiss any sort of endorsement deal goodbye. But even if they bring home the trophy, they still might be sitting on the marketing sidelines.
Darren Rovell is always pretty on point, but some of the players may get a quick deal here-and-there (at least with athletic companies).
