Too soon old, too late smart
Thought there might be a need for this one. Seems we are in a banner year to watch the women play basketball. Considering the quality of the WNBA draft, there are alot of players that are making a splash in this under-watched aspect of sports. Having Caitlyn on Iowa's team and the quality of tOSU's women's basketball over the past few years, my wife and I have watched more women's basketball (and seen in person several games at the Schott) over the years. Also appears that this draft class has sparked a new (?) aspect to the game, such as sell-out crowds for the pros, and more TV coverage than previous. Believe this is super. Certainly understand the attitude of the more established stars of the WNBA, as they were pioneers, but I believe they should be happy that this is an awakening to we viewers that they exist. And no one can argue that more TV exposure is a bad thing. With $72k as top pay per year, wow. What a bargain. Already, teams are flying charter, rather than commercial, which is a pretty neat first step towards upping the game. Gonna stay away from any controversy (for now), but believe this is a discussion for BPers. Your thoughts?

My wife and daughter are really into watching the WNBA games this season. From what I've seen the other players and refs seem to be out to get CC with hard fouls and bad calls. I watched 5-10 minutes of the game last night and there were a couple no calls leading the Fever coach to get T'd up. Then that same ref goes to the other end and calls a foul on less contact. I guess they don't realize if Clark gets hurt the interest in the league drops. Brink and Reese didn't exactly fill the arena in their matchup last night.

CC definitely gets beat up and I think that was the tape in college too. I'm guessing the Clark fatigue has hit its apex about now so she's getting zero benefit of the doubt. She'll be fine once she let's everything slow down for her and get a little stronger with the ball.

BB, you're spot on. She's no longer 'protected' as she was in B10 play, and it seems (to me at least), the established players in WNBA are making a point to double CC, set some vicious picks (although what I've seen is legal), and otherwise bully her. With her slight build, she's going to have to put some muscle on to weather the long seasons, but she can do that. Brain hasn't totally coalesced the thoughts, but it's almost like the established players are telling her that 'she ain't no big thang' now. Obviously a talent, and the fans in the stands love the pull-up jumpers from 30+ that hit nothing but net. PS, her teammates need to call out the picks, otherwise CC will get broken somewhere along the line. I do believe that CC, Angel, and Brink are to WNBA what Magic and Birdman were to the NBA. However, the three newbies aren't in the category of Magic and Bird as great players yet. Also believe that history will look back at this time, and recognize what CC and others have done to transform WNBA upwards. Certainly Indiana Fever have filled up the stands, and also see that the Fever on the road have put bodies in the seats as well. PS, CC still pushes off, and walks as she does her stepback 3.

I've seen some aggregious fouls on Clark that should have been flagrants to disqualifications to one shoulda been banned for games... Clark is the cash cow for WNBA and they better recognize it and embrace the opportunity. If they let this shit continue and even the possibility of injury they're idiots. Not a fan of coddling like NBA does for LeBron, etc.. but you'd better protect Clark physically... she's the Tom Braidy of the WNBA... PS Note I'm no way saying she's close to the best player but I certainly pose she is the most valuable asset in the entire WNBA marketing world

I don't care about the WNBA at all. The league should have folded pretty much from the start. It's never been close to profitable. CC has a chance to change some of that but the WNBA leadership is stupid.

Allowing things like this isn't a good look either.

Those conveniently omit the prior possession when Clark is running her mouth at the other end. The opponent definitely should have been given a tech for that, but CC is no unwitting victim here.

Talented as she is, Clark is tremendously unlikable on the court, in my IMO. Even there when she is taking that foul, she is embellishing and looking to the ref for a call before she even hits the ground.

Reminder, this Is who she is and how she plays the game:

She can fuck right off and take some more abuse and I won’t shed a tear.

My God what I watched this last game was disgusting. They literally let a girl crack back block her in the wide open court and didn't call it more than a common foul. Maybe this is why nobody watches the WNBA?

Shit son that was the call to arms. It actually came out in the news before she was drafted.

Maybe they should just say thank you for the new charter flights they take to games instead. Or, "Holy shit, there's a crowd?!?!?" It's ugly and even LeBron called them out.

Thought dirty Bill Lambeer had retired. Oh wait, isn't he coaching in the WNBA? Or was that yesteryear? PS, there are brighter lights in the WNBA, but she's the latest. Do like this incoming class, and try to watch the games in which they play. Jacy not getting many minutes down in Dallas, and Celeste seems to be anchored to the Fever bench. Thought it was a classless act to hug the girl that blindsided CC, but merely my opinion. Read somewhere that CC is white, straight, and pleasant to look at (plus great jump shot), which is why the other girls resent her. Finally, believe that the Fever teammates aren't doing enough 1) calling out the picks; 2) standing up for CC when she's abused.

I love basketball but I find WNBA uninteresting. Clark can shoot. She made an incredible mark in women's college basketball. I've seen the criticisms that she looks like a guy, is unlikable, etc. Whatever. I've watched two games in which she played. One in college against Ohio State and one now in the WNBA. I just find her to be a bit of a whiner and the game she plays entirely uninteresting.
