I voted "no, great ambassador"

Jim Tressel is not just a football coach, but a builder of men. He uses football and faith to take in kids and make them men.

Will every guy leaving here get a crack at the NFL? no.
Will every guy leaving here win a Nobel prize? no.

Will every player that commits to Jim Tressel and Ohio State leave here a better man, person and citizen? Damn skippy

Jim Tressel may not win another title. But he will continue to run a clean program, that wins with grace, loses with dignity, and plays to win within the rules of the game. He will win 10 or 11 games every year, compete for Big Ten titles, beat Michigan, and not lose to teams that shouldn't even be on the field with the Buckeyes (James Madison, App State, Jacksonville State).

For all my frustrations with watching the offense sputter and stall, the special teams for giving up big plays and a loss to Bucky that made me physically ill, There is no one I would rather have running the Ohio State Football Program than Senator Jim Tressel.

Amen to that. I just finished reading "The Winners Manual: For the Game of Life". If you have not read it, do yourself a favor just to see what he makes the players read and think about.

Seconded!

I not only have read it, but I own a copy personally signed by the Coach himself...which I bought at a BP Drive Auction further supporting this amazing website...which you all should do!

It is interesting to compare the results of this poll with the pre-season poll, What Will the Buckeyes' Record Be in 2010? In the preseason poll, a vast majority (140 to 38, or 78.65% to 21.35%) felt that the Buckeyes would win a national championship this season. Now, a narrow majority (80 to 75, or 51.61% to 48.39%) feel that JT will not win another national championship at Ohio State.

I don't know if the discrepancy between the two polls reflects the gap between pre-season fantasy and in-season reality, or whether a lot of Buckeye fans truly felt that 2010 was "our year" and that we wouldn't get another title shot any time soon.

Maybe its just me but I start every year since 2002 thinking its our year. We have as good a shot as anyone- thanks to Tressel.

It all hinges on improving the OL. It seems we have had the talent, just not developing it.

Year after year, I believe we will continue to have one of the top defenses in the NCAA. We should be set at the QB position for a good number of years.....we just need an improved OL, which has unfortunately been a weak area for Jim Tressel teams when matched against top tier teams.

Improve the OL to an elite level and the Bucks are champions again!

I live in Austin Texas. Don't get me wrong I'm a Buckeye, but I do pay attention to the locals. Mack Brown is a 9-4 or 10-3 coach that has had two wonderful years in which he got to play for the NC. Although it is my opinion that he never would have been in the big game except that he found two remarkable young men. Everyone at Ohio State should remember than Vince Young refused to lose in Columbus. He picked the Longhorns up and carried them to the national title on his back. Colt McCoy was a similar kind of kid without quite as broad of a back. But I believe they were the real reasons for those two great years and not Brown. Brown has a top 5 recruiting class every year. He gets all the money he wants and look at them this year. A complete mess.

That doesn't happen in Columbus since JT took over. The team is always good even when it seems like a player or two are missing. In fact I thought his third trip to the NC game was a year early. We continually have three star recruits turn into All Americans. And yes, I think all of them are better men when they leave than when they got here provided they bought in to the program.

There is a lot of carping about the uninspired offense. I've done it myself. I've read that Pickett's charge was the price the South paid for having Robert E. Lee. Perhaps the price we pay is extreme loyalty to his staff. I'll take that rather than a Zook who fired everyone but himself and then got beat by a lousy Michigan team when he should have whipped their butts.

He has been the big game more than any other coach and I don't know how you better that. You can't win if you ain't in the game. What's it been, three years? Give me a break...He'll get us back there.....oh by the way...Joe Pa is coming to town...how many times has it been said the game has passed him by. Sorry for the long rant.

This is not a "fire Tressel" poll, but poses a serious question. The poll is also "private", so your opinion will not be known unless you post it in this thread.

If you believe that JT will win another NC at Ohio State, then the question is moot.

However, if you (like me) believe that he will not, then what to do? Tressel is an excellent ambassador for Ohio State, he runs a clean program, he is a great role model, he emphasizes academics and character development, he wins 80% of his games, and he almost always beats Michigan. Is this good enough for extended job security at a program whose fans expect (rightly or wrongly) their team to win national championships on a fairly regular basis?

Even if it isn't good enough, is there really anyone out there who is any better? Saban? Too old and has character issues. Meyer? Has health issues, and suddenly can't beat anybody, even with all that southern speed. Stoops? His NC drought is two years longer than JT's, and who has squandered more talent than him? Pat Fitzgerald or some other "young" coach? An insider like Luke Fickell?

This isn't the NFL, but college football is still a "business", and winning is the number one job responsibility of a college football head coach. And at a school like Ohio State, "winning" means national championships. If Ohio State's head coach can't win it all, can he survive? Remember, Woody and Earle and Coop are all Hall of Famers, and each of them was fired....
I was looking for another thread, and came across this gem ... which I posted only six weeks before TatGate broke. Unfortunately, I was right about not winning another national championship, and wrong about running a clean program.

I hope that I'm wrong about Meyer, as well. :)

Interesting poll results, by the way.
