Will Boeckman be Benched?

Agreed. For everything that was disappointing about Boeckman's performance, I think we saw plenty of evidence of Pryor's inexperience out there tonight too. I distinctly remember one play where he scrambled for a small loss or no gain, and there was a receiver wide open down the field if he had kept looking to pass. I don't think he's ready to be the man yet.

Is anybody starting to miss Henton or Schoenhoft yet? Not that they'd make a difference, but I think you'd be able to have a more serious discussion about replacing Boeckman if there was some experience on the bench between him and Pryor.

Pryor just needs time. The guy has all the skills in the world but you can't expect a freshman to come in, learn how to read defenses and throw crisp passes in his first three or four games. I see his progression alot like V Young's, i.e. great as a sophomore and phenomenal as a junior.

I honestly never hoped it would come to this but in the back of my mind I thought it may. Todd is a loyal Buckeye who works as hard as humanly possible and gives everything he has to help this team succeed, but it seems as though ever since Illinois last year his confidence in his ability has totally dissapeared. The player we have seen the last 6 games looks nothing like the guy who manhandled Penn State in as hostile a situation as you can come into. Todd's biggest asset was his gunslinger mentality, and he has lost that. Football is a game of inches and split second decisions, by holding onto the football for an extra half a second because you don't have the right amount of faith in your decision nothing good can happen. That split second most of the time is the difference between a completion or an interception. I hate to see this happen to a kid who has waited his time and paid his dues, but it sure seems like our offense needs to go in a different direction right now.

The other thing I take from this is that it may be time for JT to think about hiring a true Offensive Coordinator and turning over the play calling duties. If you think about the cycle of life of Assistant Coaches, once they become successful as Coordinators they eventually move on to their own jobs. Maybe this turnover isn't such a bad thing because it brings in a fresh guy with his own scheme every few years. As long as the change isn't drastic, ala our enemies up north, fresh ideas on that side of the ball may not be such a bad idea. In essence we have had the same Offensive Coordinator for 8 years, maybe we have become too predictable and opponents have 8 years of film to study. I guess the biggest thing that scares me is when I hear people say that tOSU coaches are dusting off the Troy Smith playbook for TP. Not that the Troy Smith playbook wasn't effective by any means, but opponents have seen it already. By all means lets take parts of that playbook and use them in a scheme for TP, but lets not recycle the Troy Smith playbook, lets create the TP playbook.

Are we all dissapointed by tonight, of course, but I am still damned proud of every player on that field tonight and I am still as proud as hell to be a Buckeye. Even when the time came that there was no chance of winning they still fought and played as hard as they could and under no circumstance did anybody quit. Sometimes in defeat you learn more about a person and a team, tonight solidified what I have always known about our coaches and our players and how much they give to this game.

To the coaches and all the players who put it all on the line tonight,

Thank You

Herbs just called it. Stick with TB, but work TP in more and more and let him get better and before you know it he'll be the starter. I'm down with that.

I respectfully disagree. Pryor wasn't the top QB recruit in the nation for nothing. Boeckman has done well to take us as far as he can take us, but Pryor has the upside. The future is now.

The rolling/moving pocket was working well for Boeckman early in the game as well. He can do well when given time, but if the Oline continues to play poorly, then maybe the Bucks need Pryor to put them in the best position to win.

It's a tough call...though, I'm still not sold QB is our worst issue.

Agree 100%. We did try different stuff to take the pressure off, to some extent, such as rolling/moving the pocket, TB draws from the shotgun, QB scrambles, and even running the option. But for whatever reason the drive that we really needed to do something, when the score was still 21-3, it was simply running Boom straight up the middle for one yard. Then a couple of five step drops, which resulted in back to back sacks. As a playcaller, you gotta be more disciplined, and if you did take the effort to alleviate some pressure on the QB, why stop using it when the game still mattered? Baffling.

TB had plenty of time on that pick 6 he threw. I know he's a good kid, they all are, but he is turn over prone and what you see is what you get, he's not going to change.

I think its simply a matter of time this year before TP is named the starter.

That's the key, really, isn't it? The line has played poorly in the last three big games and it has to be more than coincidence that the some of the same parts are unchanged.

The funny thing is, I was really happy w/ the way Todd was throwing right up until that point. Heck, we'd had a couple dropped balls and yet Todd was doing well...then BAM. That hurt. Dunno if Todd should take a back seat to TP or not, but that hurt!
