Why was Auburn ranked in the top 10?

I saw highlights of Auburn's game against Mississippi State, and I can't understand why they are still a top 10 team.

Their offense was pitiful, and they won 3-2.

How they can still be ranked #9 is beyond me.

It is mystifying. After LSU ass-rapes them by thirty points, and Bama finally gets a win, they will drop down to where they really belong.

Honestly, and this isn't an insult, but just as UMichigan was ranked in the pre-season because of their name, AU is in the top ten because of their conference. 5 of the Top Ten are SEC teams.

Auburn has been perennially overrated for the last several years. They started last year in the middle of the top 25, but get beaten at home by South Florida, and K-State has them down very late in the 4th quarter at home. I recall in 05 after getting trounced by my Badgers in the Citrus/Cap One Bowl, and finishing with the same amount of losses and less wins, somehow the voters justified them being ranked ahead of UW in the final poll. I think the cause for such unjust praise is a combo platter of their SEC affiliation and guilt for excluding them from the national championship a few years ago after going through their entire schedule unblemished.

The real question is "Why are Auburn fans still crying over not making the National Championship a couple years back?"
