I posted this on the other thread but I thought it deserved a second look because this baffles me...

So. Let me get this straight.

--#4 SEC ALABAMA is favored over #1 CLEMSON.

Let me say that again...

Non-Conference Champ (but Mercer Champ!) BAMA is favored over the NUMBER ONE FUCKING TEAM IN THE COUNTRY!

But, there's more...

--#3 SEC GEORGIA is favored over #2 OKLAHOMA.

I guess Vegas has somehow bought into the SEC bull[Mark May] too.

Media influences betting behavior; Vegas usually isn't trying to predict scores as much as even the stakes on both sides of the line so they win either way collecting fees.
Average schmucks bet on the teams media tells them to - ie: SEC SEC SEC

Interesting notes from Dawg fans apparently trying to get to the Rose bowl. Buckeye fans have played in the game many times before (and relatively recent) so I'm sure you can commiserate.

Tickets are not the issue. Most people can get a pair of tickets for under $500. But flights and lodging is an absolute nightmare. So much so that alumni associations are working with busing/caravan groups out of Vegas to get them to the game 2 hours ahead of time and bring them back. It's that much of a pain in the ass.

We surprisingly go to the Rose Bowl quite rarely. It's one of those enigmas... if we're good enough to go to Pasadena, we're usually being sent somewhere like the Sugar or Fiesta Bowl.
The one year we win B1G outright and not good enough for playoffs / bcs ncg... the Rose is a Playoff game. It never lines up right.
2nd home in the Fiesta Bowl since early 2000s though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Man, I really don't care. UGA is the only non-objectionable institution of higher education involved, but they're SEC! But on the other hand, fuck Okie and fuck Mayfield twice, fuck Clemson and fuck Alabama and doubly fuck their mongoloid fanbase. So, I guess I'm rooting for UGA but don't really care too much what happens.

I'm far more interested in the B1G's big bowl games than I am the playoffs.

Yea this has been my thought as well. SEC or not, Georgia is easily the least objectionable. But whatever. I won't watch any of the games anyway.

Remember betting lines are made to generate bets, not because one team or the other is necessary better than the other.

A lot of people are going to react the same way you have and put money on the underdogs.

I still think it's humorous the lower ranked SEC teams are favored in both games. Almost if the committee was involved in that as well

And exactly two states in America would tune in to watch it and the playoffs would've been deemed a major disappointment when it comes to who actually gave a fuck about it.

I'd be REALLY interested to know the numbers this year vs. last. Tvbythenumbers.com usually reports the ratings for sporting events. Just FYI. Hopefully it'll be such a dramatic drop it'll be a bigger story than the shitty team that ends up winning.

We didn't get in for 2015 and the ratings went through the floor... we are THE product everyone wants to watch.

No doubt in my mind these playoffs lack more so then maybe even 2015. Alabama and Clemson again? Who wants to watch a 3rd game with those two.

Not to mention 3 teams being in a 300 mile radius of each other

Does Oklahoma have a likable man-child at 3rd string QB that could lead them to a title?

I'd be all-in on the Sooners if not for Baker Mayfield. Fuck that guy.
You know, my father once taught a class with Brian Bosworth when he was at OU in the 1980s. He said Bosworth was the rudest smartmouth punk he ever came across. OU's had their fair share of knuckleheads dating back to when Bud Wilkinson was the coach in the 50s and 60s. I understand Baker Mayfield has some growing up to do, but he is nowhere near the asshole-level of Bosworth nor is he even the knucklehead that Stanley Wilson was.

IMO, Mayfield's just one of those guys who needs to have enemies to get his juices going: And if he doesn't have any real ones, he'll find ways to invent them in his mind or do something dickish to make them. Those kind of people are annoying as fuck, but he doesn't really go beyond that for me. Bosworth was just a grade A troll before before people knew what trolls were: My favorite Bosworth story is from when he was with the Seahawks in the old AFC West and Broncos fans were buying up "Brian Bozo" t-shirts, which, as it turns out, "Bozo" was producing for profit.

I can't help you with Stanley Wilson, Charles Thompson . . .
