Who has a smart phone?

Bobcat94

You're awesome.
I'm looking to (finally) retire my ragged out Verizon Kyocera 7135 smart phone and buy a new one. It has served me well, but the phone motherboard quit working and I need a new one. Preferably, one that isn't the size of a toaster.

I don't use the data features (email, internet, file upload, etc.), just the organizer, address book, calculator and phone. I prefer the graffiti method of writing notes rather than trying to press the tiny keys on the tiny keyboards that are on the new Treos. (I think I may be one of the last dinosaurs using graffiti on a phone) :(

What are you all using? Any recommendations?

I have a Samsung Blackjack, but if you're not going to use the e-mail and internet features, it'd be overkill. It does have a good mp3 player and an expansion slot for memory. It doesn't, however, have a standard headphone jack. You have to either use bluetooth headphones or buy an adapter directly from Samsung for $20.

I have a Motorola Q. I absolutely love it! I wasn't sure if I would like the mini keyboard, but it is very easy to use.

Not yet (trusty ole e815), when my VZW contract runs out this fall...

:banger:...that will be my next phone, on a sprint SERO plan ($30 - 500 min, unlimited web/data).

No Palm OS users, out there, hmm. :crickets:

Thanks for the info. Of the 3 mentioned (Blackjack, Q, E62), any thoughts on battery life, software glitches, ease of hot syncing, phone performance, tech support, etc?

I still have my i-500 clamshell. Love it. I don't need a lot of the bells and whistles, like a camera and mp3 player. I want my palm pilot for the addresses and phone numbers, internet access, and a phone that works. The little bastard is in an all metal case, and it has taken a licking. If I hadn't dropped it into a sink full of water last week, it would still be good to go. :pissed:
Now it is acting a little hinky, and I am looking for another new i-500 somewhere in mothballs so that I don't have to go to a Treo brick.

Why they refuse to go to a clamshell design again is beyond me.

Man, I am with you on this. I like the clamshell design and I do like the graffiti data entry.

My kyocera has taken some abuse and withstood all of it except for a couple static charges that roached the phone board (my fault). The only complaint I have about it is it's bulky, but the features really met my needs.

I also am not looking forward to migrating my data from Palm to Outlook. When my boss upgraded from a palm to a blackberry, it was a real pain in the ass getting the data to convert to outlook.

Correction: I would like to have GPS & mapping integrated with my phone/PDA (preferably without paying the phone company an extra $25/mo to use the built-in GPS). THAT, my friends would be the cat's ass.

I can't imagine any phone is going to allow you full blown gps features without having to pay a monthly sevice charge. The Blackjack is capable of it, but requires signing up for an extra monthly service from Cingular. It does have a free version of google earth on it that's very good. Combine it with the mapping functions of Zagat to go, and my needs are met in this regard. That, however, is still a far cry from actual real time gps.

Sorry, but I slipped into fantasy world for a moment. Even though every phone made anymore contains GPS, the phone companies aren't going to share the code to unlock it with a third-party mapping program.

It would be very cool if somehow that code was made available for developers, but you are right, very unrealistic.
