Playoff proponents of year's past: "settle it on the field!!!!!!"

Uh huh.... that's certainly why we need to see two SEC teams. I mean, Bama may have beaten MSU, but they didn't settle [Mark May].

What a fucking joke.

The thing I think people seem to be forgetting is that, much like the field of 64 in the NCAAB tournament, nothing is set in stone until selection day.

These rankings don't really mean shit right now other than to get people talking.

It's all "bracketology" at this point, and until the committee announces their Final Four it's hard to get too riled up about rankings.

Also Minnesota won't be top 25 when the season ends...and we knew that.

You sure about that?
Actually my statement was predicated on Minnesota being in the Top25 before CCGs are played (and thus after -- but before is important for perception reasons.)
I didn't expect them to be top-25 this week... but not surprised given just how many lost at the bottom.
If they can beat Nebraska and keep it close against Wisconsin, they will still be top25. And that's exactly what I was referring to when I said "if everything goes according to plan".

As for current wins -- like I said, I have no issue with current rankings b/c we didn't have much in current wins.
But projecting to end-of-season, I stick by the statement I made. Provided Ohio State wins out, our 3rd best win is Minnesota, not Maryland - true now, and true last week when I replied.

That said, the winner of the Overated Bowl, featuring LSU & Aggy after Thanksgiving, will be back in the top25. Guaranteed. But I'd still argue Minnesota is a better win than Aggy.

Ohio State, Alabama, Oregon, TCU. One team per conference, I'm not sending two SEC teams. FSU is out, for one because I think they're playing an ineligible player, but their most impressive wins are against two teams with 3 losses and that are barely in the Top 25. In fact, all 3 of their ranked wins have been too close.

That's silly.

Undefeated FSU is a top 4 team no matter how you slice it.

I was wondering who the other person was that took the 1982 SMU angle with FSU. It'll be years down the road, but I have little doubt FSU will eventually be forfeiting some games (though, like USC and Reggie Bush... probably not the NC year)

I realize i am the lone opinion here but, oh what the hell. Here is the thing with FSU. I hate them with a passion, but.....

They have a QB, even though he is Satan's spawn, who has a knack for winning games, finding open receivers down the stretch, etc. etc.
They have several other future NFL players......several.
They have played down to the their level of competition. Great teams don't do that of course but thinking they don't have the talent to compete with anyone in the country simply based on their lackluster play this year is a mistake IMO.
They have the longest winning streak in the country, that speaks for itself. At least many OSU fans felt that way during our long winning streak.

It's hard to say I root against any top team more than Bama but I do. And it's clearly FSU but until somebody knocks them off they are still the top dogs. They have the belt. I can't wait to see the look in Jimbo's and Skrong Boy's eyes when they get dethroned but, for now, they hold the title.

Yup. There's too much smoke it Tallahassee at this point. Who knows what decade the NCAA will get around to things, but if they ever get to it I think they'll end up forfeiting some games from this year at least.

I think the committee will keep them in the top-4 for some of those reasons.
But personally I refuse to recognize them as a legit team given the issues going on. Winston isn't even the only suspect player they're running out there. There is no doubt that they're an excellent team capable of winning everything. The issue is that they're not legit under NCAA rules... what happens in 3 or 4 years when the civil suits have finally ran their course and everything has come out, and the NCAA finally sanctions them ala aforementioned SMU and USC? Do the teams they played in the playoff get a do-over? Do you declare the first "real NC" to be a fraud if they win it?
Most likely it goes the way of Reggie Bush' Heisman... except instead of just being a black spot on a once-great and highly coveted award, it's a black spot on the entire sport.
Thankfully VY and Texas beat USC anyway. Thankfully the AP and Coaches didn't give SMU the chance to be #1.
