Who are the top five teams in the Big Ten?

knapplc

Nebraska is a Volleyball school
Interested to hear your opinions, especially after seeing who the BTN guys picked to win the East & West divisions a couple days ago.

My top five teams, in order, would be:

Ohio State
TSUN
Sparty
Iowa
.....???? Maybe Penn State? Maybe Northwestern? Maybe Wisconsin?

I think the top three are pretty obvious. Iowa had a fine year, but I don't have faith in them to replicate it, so they're definitely #4 to me. But #5 is murky as hell. I don't think Nebraska can claim it, we've been too up-and-down over the years, and nobody knows if Riley's ceiling is 6-7 wins.

Penn State is closer to #5 than Nebraska.
Wisconsin has been the most consistent team out of the rest.
Northwestern is the Little Engine That Could.

I'd have Sparty over tSUN for sure.

Not sure I can even come up with my top 5. Ohio State would surely be #1, Sparty 2, but beyond that I see a bunch of also rans, to be honest. scUM was 4 TDs worse than Ohio State last year, doesn't have a QB or an O-Line... just not buying the hype, tho their schedule is easy enough to be "fake good"

To be honest I think the pre season love for the entire B1G is a bit too much and based off last couple years performance.

There are some HUGE QB question marks for Sparty, tsun and wisky.

OSU turns over its whole roster but has the QB and recruiting pedigree.

Iowa has questions still about how good they really are even though they return everyone.

Penn State has questions at QB (although I think he's clearly an improvement) OL, quality of depth and most especially in game coaching. Up to this point Franklin has been horrific at in game adjustments.

Not just being a homer, I like OSU mix of talent, QB experience and coaching but almost nothing would surprise me from the B1G this year outside of tsun winning it all. Media and DFBIA are massively overrating their QB situation and the quality of all that returning "talent".

Just my imo

Sparty over tsun until Harbaugh proves that he's more than just a freak show.

I'd say,

  1. Ohio State
  2. Sparty
  3. Wiscy (though I'm not sold on the new coaching staff)
  4. tsun
  5. Northwestern

Here's my question. What is it that's different between what Wisky and the Scummers are doing?

I mean, no offense to scum (ok, offense) but, what they do doesn't seem all that different other than Harbaugh is hoping for his next Andrew Luck to come along.

As easily as Dantonio is forgotten by the rest of the nation, he's built a pretty good machine up there in East Lansing, and I could definitely see an argument for them at #2. I think HARBAUGH!!! is getting Michigan going in the right direction, but I wonder how quickly he'll burn out up there. The candle that burns twice as bright burns twice as fast, that kind of thing.

What I really agree with here is that, after the first couple of teams, it's mostly a crapshoot in this conference. No clear-cut #3, #4, etc. I'm not a believer in Iowa, nor Penn State, nor Northwestern, nor Nebraska. Nobody has made a convincing argument for any of those spots, not for this year or for the last five or so years.
