"Who am I?" (Buckeye players edition...let's play)

Yes it was Mike Tomczak. The bad thing about it is that it was his senior year. Anyway he went on to bigger and better things doing the SuperBowl Shuffle with the Bears in 1985.

BuckeyeBill73 you are now "on the clock" for a question.

Bob Ferguson was selected by both the Steelers (NFL) and Chargers (AFL) in the 1st round in 1962.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Bob Ferguson, an All-America fullback at Ohio State who played for coach Woody Hayes and was the Heisman Trophy runner-up in 1961, died at 64.

He died Thursday, the Cook & Son-Pallay Funeral Home told The Associated Press on Friday. He had complications from diabetes.

Ferguson starred at Ohio State from 1959-61 and was an All-American his last two seasons. He scored 26 touchdowns, including four against Michigan in 1961, when the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines 50-20 to cap an 8-0-1 season.

During his three years at Ohio State, the 220-pound Ferguson accumulated 2,304 all-purpose yards, including 2,162 rushing for an average of 5 yards a carry.

"He wasn't a finesse runner," son Robert Ferguson Jr. told The Columbus Dispatch. "He was a power runner. Those were the days of three yards and a cloud of dust."

During the 1961 season, Ohio State turned down a Rose Bowl invitation because administrators felt the university was becoming known simply as a football school. Minnesota went instead and beat UCLA 21-3.

Ferguson had a disappointing NFL career. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers reserve for two years and played another season with the Minnesota Vikings. Ferguson later worked as a youth counselor in Columbus and retired in 1990 because of health problems.

He is survived by wife Diana, sons Robert, Rodney and Ronald and daughter Robin.

Correct, you're up again, Script.

just for history sake.....the down markers showed 3 in the tomczak game mentioned earlier...
So I suppose they sent those refs to the Colorado-Missouri 5th down game a few years later. The year Colorado won a split NC with a loss, a tie, and the game they won with the late '5th down' TD.

I was at this game too. This was snatching victory out of the jaws of defeat!!!

Ohio State at Michigan in 1975

Undefeated and No.1-ranked Ohio State looked unstoppable on its opening drive, rolling 63 yards and scoring on a five-yard TD pass from Cornelius Greene to Pete Johnson. But the OSU offense was stifled for the next two quarters.

Meanwhile, Michigan tied the game at the half on Gordon Bell’s halfback pass to Jim Smith. Freshman quarterback Rick Leach scored on an option keeper in the fourth quarter for a 14-7 lead.

But Green’s passing brought Ohio State back. Late in the fourth quarter the Big Ten MVP tossed a key 17-yard pass to Brian Baschnagel on third-and-long and followed with completions of 14 and 17 yards to Len Willis. Archie Griffin, held to less than 100 yards for the first time in 31 games, got loose for gains of 11 and 12 yards to put the ball at the Michigan 8. Fullback Pete Johnson was called on four straight times and finally scored on fourth down. The ensuing PAT tied the game.

On the next series, I intercepted a Rick Leach pass and returned it to the three. Johnson notched his 25th touchdown of the season with 2:23 to play for the final score. Who am I?

Final score: Ohio State 21, Michigan 14
