Texan fan here that lurks around from time to time to see how you guys are doin....

I was thinkin earlier today about which of you guys' 2 losses was more detrimental to your goals for the season.. Of course the PSU loss was extremely impactful because it came 2nd and eliminated any chance of a trip to the NC game, but I'm curious...if you could take away either loss, such that you only 1 loss for the entire regular season, which one would you take away?

My guess is that a lot of you will say PSU, simply because it would mean an outright Big 10 title and no worrying about having to get at-large BCS bid (though I'm almost certain you guys will get one anyway...).

Anyway, I'm just curious here. Not at all trying to stir up any bad feelings or memories from the season. Feel free to just vote in the poll or to vote and explain why--i'm interested in hearing how you guys feel about this.

Good job against Michigan, by the way. What a game.

My mind says Penn State, because we'd be #3 or #4 in the BCS standings, not to mention outright conference champs, by beating PSU and having only the 3-point loss to Texas. However, my heart says Texas because of the historical importance of the game, and the fact that we could still be higher in the BCS standings had our only loss been at Penn State. Aside from Michigan, Texas was by far the team I most wanted a victory against...no other opponent was close.

That's an interesting point. I suppose it's possible that you guys could even be top 4 in the BCS--which would guarantee the at-large bid--if your only loss was to PSU:

1) USC
2) PSU
3) LSU/OSU
4) LSU/OSU

...with Texas coming in 5 or 6 due to the loss at the Shoe.

But it seems to me having that Big 10 title outright, in ADDITION to the BCS bid, would be very significant to most of you.

Penn State. We'd be Conf. champs (8 - 0) for one thing. The other thing is, I feel like OSU coulda shoulda woulda beat Texas. I say that to mean, OSU had a couple of things that didn't go their way that really still bug me... Hamby's drop high on the list, along with a missed safety and a missed FG... scoring on 6 stright drives and coming away with only 22 points....

I don't mean to take anything away from Texas' win. You guys stepped up and got it done when you had to. Just that, I feel this game is one that got away. So, in my mind OSU was actually better than Texas on that night, but the score didn't prove it.

Like Mili I feel this is a really close call, for who wants to see their team lose at any time. Of the two though I'd have to say take back Texas. Troy Smith late out to Ginn, who runs it in for the TD. Only fair we make that a win on the last play of the game.

Why Texas not Penn State?

1. Because I couldn't choose both Texas and Penn State by the terms of the question.
2. Because the Buckeyes played like demons on defense in that one, because it was at home, and, because it would have had a better impact on our overall season as we now know it to be.

Texas for sure. We beat Texas...I think we'd be #2 in the BCS with the way the computers love us even with 2 losses...we'd probably be ranked 3rd in the polls, but we'd probably make up so much ground in the computers that we'd already be packing our bags for pasadena. I don't think we'd be ranked behind Penn State...even though they beat us. The humans would have it close, but the computers would have us higher.

I'm not so sure if you guys would be #2 over the PSU team that beat you. I suppose the computers MIGHT be able to push you into that spot, but man what an uproar that would bring.

Interesting.... And, since only Texas and USC remain undefeated, it would be a 1 loss going if we had beat Texas..... Why not a 1 loss OSU?

OK, I'd like to change my damn vote.... :p

I don't think a #2 OSU would have fallen below PSU when they beat us. I think they moved to 9 that week (that they beat us) so, it may have been close.... OSU might have come in at 8 or 7, but just as easily 10 or 12

I guess another interesting thing to consider is....if you eliminate the PSU loss, not only do you have the outright Big 10 title, but you also have eliminated really your only poor game of the season. You would have played well in the 10 games you won (including the "modified" PSU game), and in fact quite well in your only loss.

That may just be a mental thing, but i think it'd make me feel better knowing that my team hadn't play a bad game all season.
