The winner of the Alabama/Georgia game will be #1 and the loser will be #2. Oklahoma pretty much secured the #3 spot with a tough overtime loss, and they should finish ahead of Ohio State anyway due to their head-to-head win. Clemson got blown out by Alabama, but will the former #1 team really fall past #4?

So the playoff teams will probably still occupy the top four slots in the final polls. Ohio State entered the bowl season at #5, but was Ohio State's convincing win over Pac-12 champion Southern Cal really enough to keep them in the top 5?

Central Florida is currently at the top of the media darling list, as they finished the season a perfect 13-0 and in the Peach Bowl beat the team (Auburn) that beat both of the Playoff finalists (Georgia and Alabama). Some idiots are already calling UCF the "real national champion", which is preposterous, but will their big win over an SEC!!!!!! team be enough to propel the Knights from #10 pre-bowl to a top-5 finish?

And the idiots in the media keep saying that Penn State was the best team in the Big Ten this year, so will the Nittany Lions jump the Buckeyes despite their head-to-head loss?

And of course Wisconsin still has a better record than Ohio State despite their head-to-head loss.

Everywhere you go in the media, there's no talk about Ohio State beating three top-15 teams (Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan State). It's still all about the 31-point loss to Iowa.

So given the above, could Ohio State conceivably finish as low as 8th in the final polls, behind Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Central Florida, Penn State, and Wisconsin? I doubt it, but I'd be willing to bet that at least one media member's ballot looks something like that. I say Ohio State finishes 6th, with Central Florida finishing in the #5 slot.

Unless you win the whole thing, the only poll that matters is the AP for historical reasons. And since all-time AP top-5 finishes seems to be a thing, I just hope we don't drop below 5. I have a hunch that there'll be some sentiment to reward UCF for getting left out of the playoffs with a top 5 finish.

I don't see Clemson falling past #4. And their "blowout" loss to the possible national champ is no where near as bad as our loss to Iowa.

No doubt. No one had a more impressive defensive performance other than Alabama.

Can't see them jumping up to #5. They'll obviously jump USC and Auburn, and maybe jump PSU and Wiscy since their margins of victory were similar to UCF's. But no way do they jump Ohio State after what the Buckeyes did to the #8 team.

If Penn State and Wisconsin were already ranked behind us before the bowls despite what you pointed out, not sure how they'd jump the Buckeyes after Ohio State had one of the most impressive wins of all the bowls.

The Iowa loss was enough to keep us barely out of the playoffs, but it doesn't prove that we aren't the best non-playoff team.

I'll say we finish #5, and throw UCF a bone at #6.

I voted #4 or above, but what you say makes sense. I'd accept that. :urban2:

Pretty sure the committee does not do a final ranking.
You might be right. I think they called the last one their "final" ranking. However, I think they dont do one post bowl season for the very fact that they may have to be completely different than what they decided, especially when they leave teams out that dominate like UCF and Ohio State. Saves them the questions being asked directly.

Ohio State finished #5 in the final AP poll. UCF finished #6.

What I feared might happen to Ohio State actually did happen to Wisconsin. The Badgers entered the bowl season #6, beat ACC runner-up Miami at home in the Orange Bowl, finished with a 13-1 record, and dropped one spot to #7 as UCF passed them by.

And the trolling was strong with the AP voters, as six of them voted UCF #1 overall. Local troll Bill Landis had UCF #5 and Ohio State #6. Simply pathetic.
