So I saw this documentary called Michigan v. Ohio State, The Rivalry and it seemed from the documentary that if you were born in Ohio and played football, and then went to play at a collegiate level, you played at TOSU and it wasn't even a question and your family and community would ostracize you if you considered anywhere else, which you wouldn't, because you idolized TOSU and grew up with the team as your secular religion. Nowadays I hear that the best Ohioans seek to play elsewhere, and that the mythical pull of TOSU isn't as prominent. How true is this statement? Is there any truth to the notion that TOSU, with the rest of the Big Ten, plays slow, boring, and ancient football compared to other powerhouse teams?

They myth is simply people are seeking warmer climates. California and Florida basically.

Couldn't agree more....sure we lose a few but JT has put a fence around the state of Ohio much more than John Cooper ever did.....

Also, while not always the case, sometimes the reasons these guys leave Ohio is because Ohio State plain just didn't offer them a scholarship. They might be good, but we might have a stronger need elsewhere and only a limited amount of scholarships to offer.

I'm not a troll... I'm just curious as to the merits of the perceptions that plague TOSU in the media at the moment. I'm from NY and I don't have the Ohio media perspective, only the negative national media. All I hear about TOSU are negatives.

Someone tell bama to stop playing ancient football. They're dominating with it.

Someone tell Michigan that their modern offense shouldn't stink to high heaven in big ten play.

Oregon's sexy offense got destroyed.

Wisconsin dominated southern speed Miami.

Penn State edged out LSU in an ugly game, despite featuring a spread offense.

Texas high flying offense came to a screeching halt all three times they faced OSU, including with Vince Young.

That's only because we lost to Florida, got thrown into a game against LSU, didn't shut out Texas, and ended up with a lower score on the scoreboard than USC.

You shouldn't be hearing much negative about OSU after the Rose Bowl right now. Most people that are talking about OSU are praising them.

OSU lost big games for 3 seasons. That earns plenty of earned criticism, but the hyperbole is attributed to other factors.

OSU lost big games to THE sports headquarters officially sponsored conference, the SEC. They are quite literally a propaganda network which much of the nation digests willingly.

The media does not analyze. They regurgitate stereotypes and are only out for ratings, not credibility. That's why Mark May & Lou Holtz read scripted arguments and take hilariously controversial positions to stir up anger, laughter and ratings.

This is also because the media is notorious for ignoring defense, which is OSU's specialty.

TEBOW won the last two titles according to them, when really Tebow was AWFUL for 3 qtrs vs OU and the defense kept rescucitating their title hopes. They won the last title too, as did LSU's D, and Bama's D this year.

USC was also the program of the decade with an older, pro-style offense. They went to BCS games every year for 8 years, dominated in most of them, and hauled in the most blue-chip recruits.

you got all of these assumptions from watching "scum vrs. tOSU, the rivalry"? is this the hbo special or something else entirely?

do yourself a favor. do a hometown search on scumlands best over the years. just so your not shocked, your going to see a whole lot of "OH" beside players names. in fact, your going to see a whole lot of "OH" beside the names of a lot of players from not only big 10 schools, but other teams like ND.

this question caused me physical pain. have you actually watched any of the big 10 teams play this year? how about any of their bowl games? whats YOUR opinion on what brand of football tOSU and the rest of the big 10 plays vrs. other conferences and schools?

It's all absolutely true. We're also entirely inbred, which helps enforce the order of our church. We throw scarlet robes on our naked bodies, pour Wesson oil on the floor, and writhe a lot with our partners during football games too. Of course, it's true, we writhe slowly. It's all that breeding, we just got slow. It just goes on all afternoon and evening and can be quite exhausting if you are not trained up for it. It's not really a religion, just a way of life.

Sadly, it appears that the media is moving on now that we beat their PAC10 darling. In fact, it seems like everyone beat a PAC10 darling this year in a bowl game. So, if you are looking for a team that's getting kicked around in the media next year, it would be smart to enroll instead at TSUN.

But, hey, stick around. I see that you are an applicant. Just be sure to practice your robe-->oil-->slow writhing before you get to campus. Nothing like being the odd one out to get university off on the wrong foot.
