Sol

Its the top selling beer in Mexico. Much smoother than Corona...doesn't need a lime to make it palatable. Hard to find around here, its only in the bigger beer stores, at least in the Toledo area.

Of course if I don't have too much of a choice, I'll drink whatever's offered. And like it too.
Corona

Corona (labeled Corona Extra, but seldom referred to as such) is the top-selling beer in Mexico and is one of the top-selling beers worldwide.

Corona may be the best selling Mexican beer, it is not the best selling beer in Mexico, as bought and drank in Mexico. Hell, it isn't even the top selling beer from their own brewery (Grupo Modelo.) Modelo Especial has that honor. Corona is either fourth or fifth in domestic sales, depending on your source.

You can usually tell who your fellow tourists are while in Mexico. Look around, and you notice all the Gringo's are drinking Corona, or possibly a Dos Equis (amber). At least with Dos Equis you can ask for the green bottle - the good stuff. With Corona, there is no good stuff, unless of course, its free

There are really only two breweries in Mexico, as after the top two, the next ten don't sell as much as either Cerveceria Cuahtemoc Moctezuma or Grupo Modelo. The older of the two, Cerveceria Cuahtemoc Moctezuma makes Two XX and Sol, amongst others, while Grupo Modelo makes Corona and Pacifico, amongst others.

If you like Sol, you should try Tecate....Excellent Mexican beer. I drank it and Shiner all the time when I lived in Texas..
I've tried it, and though I prefer it to Corona, it loses a little of its mystery because you can buy it in every carry-out / gas station in the city. My wife and I will split a six of Tecate or Dos Equis or WhateverMexicanBeer every 3 or 4 weeks.

As long as I'm rambling about Mexican beers, has anyone tried the Negra Modelo? It is too thick for my tastes - almost chewy thick (figuratively speaking,) maybe similar in texture to a Stout. Not what you'd expect from a "Mexican" beer (am I stereotyping?) But it doesn't have the same flavor as a Stout, just the molasses feel about it.

I drink this more than anything else. I have a thing for Belgium beers.

A good discussion of Mexican beer. I like most Mexican beers (I avoid Tecate and Corona). However, I like Bohemia the best.

If you like Sol, do you also like Superior?

mmmm... Stella... :)

So... did all you Guinness drinkers participate in the Great Guinness Toast tonight?

Guinness is gross. I participated in the great cheap, domestic toast tonight. I drank as much cheap, domestic beer as possible.

YEEE-HAAAWWW!!!

I love cheap beer. If you don't, you're a loser!

In regards to Mexican beer...

My favorite is Dos Equis Special Lager or Negra Modelo. Corona is alright but as stated above it is a very touristy beer. Tecate is some nasty shit and it will tear apart your stomach. First game of the 2005 season we went one of the OSU bars here in Chicago and they had $1 Tecate cans. Me and some friends unstocked them from Tecate. I will never touch the stuff again.

Do I have to choose? I prefer beers with more flavor and so I find what I like in most European beers, but I've had a lot of really good domestic beers, many of which were mentioned in previous posts, Anchor Steam, Blue Moon, Yuengling, Sam Adams, Shinerbock, Goose Island... a local beer here in Cincinnati, Christian Moreline (sp), was excellent for a few years, but I think was bought out and went through a decline.

But the best beer is the one in your hand while watching the Buckeyes win in Ann Arbor.

Anyone know of a place in Central Ohio that stocks Blackened Voodoo any longer? Kerr (major distributor for Central OH out of Athens) stopped carrying it years ago, and I haven't been able to find it for six or seven years now.

I would be willing to bet that Pace Hi has it as does Weilands on Indianola. (Weilands just started selling hard liquor as well and they always have a great selection)

I prefer the micro brewed stuff so voted for the domestic.

Barley's > Hosters > CBC > ... > Elevator IMO.

I think the most overrated beers are Guinness (always gives me a headache for some reason) but it generally tastes like flat muddy water, Yuengling (One step above bud, two steps behind the Leinenkugels line)

I agree with the sentiment from the man law commercials.

Don't fruit the beer!

Some good beers....
Belles
Great Lakes Brewing Company
Goose Island
Murphys
McEwans Scottish Ale
Anything by Barleys especially their hi proof stuff like their Chrismas ale

I tried the Monty Python and the Holy Ale for the heck of it. OK, didn't stand out.
