What Will the Buckeyes' Record Be in 2010?

Will the Buckeyes Win the NC in 2010?

I thought our team was as good as anybody in the country from the month of November on. We lost a few key guys but returned a plethora of playmakers. Can we put it all together? I think so, but these are some things I could see being pivotal issues in the success of this team:
Title:
  • Running game picks up where it left off. A pretty good run blocking O-line with a relatively deep stable of running backs and fullbacks. Regardless of who we are playing, our running game should wear down defenses and set up the pass.
  • Passing game opens up like we think it will. With the Rose Bowl last year, we saw an offense that wasn't afraid to sling the ball around. We saw the playaction rollout, we saw the shotgun four wide, etc. This has to be the most "diverse" offense JT has had since 06 with regards to a solid run game and a legit threat at passing. I think we are all excited about what a pass catching TE in Stoneburner can bring this offense but not holding my breath just yet.
  • Most importantly, defense. This is a good looking defense bolstered by one of the best defensive lines I have ever seen at Ohio State. Lots of talent at linebacker, depth as well. There's really not a lot to be said about how good our defense has been in the past and will continue to be in 2010.

Bust
  • Injury. Everyone saw what happened to Oklahoma last year. They had like 3 of the first four taken in the 2010 draft but injuries to their key players really ruined their season. If our guys start dropping like flies similar to theirs, no doubt it will be a long year.
  • Defensive Secondary Meltdown. I really don't think this is going to be an issue, but it certainly is a question mark in an otherwise proven defense. I ultimately think we will be fine with the guys we have at corner but color me "anxious" to see the new safeties in action.
  • Special Teams play. Usually...well just about always this is an area Jim Tressel relies heavily on. I am concerned about our punting game right now. I have liked what I've heard about Ben Buchannon's (Sp?) leg but I haven't seen it yet. The same goes for or KO's and our Field Goals. As much as us fans hate it, those are some of this teams greatest assets year in and year out and I'm not sure we have that as of right now.

I have said it before and I will continue you to say it, I will never, ever, think that Ohio State is going to lose a game prior to it happening.

The only thing that changes is how confident I am about it. This year I happen to be very confident.

Patience, grasshopper. There are 2 related vBets forthcoming. One for who will will the BCS Title game, and another for the number of wins for tOSU football this season. But why tie up the vCash in May? :wink2:

College football has gotten more of a crap shoot. Somebody is gonna hurt TP and we'll lose one game along the way. Just enough to keep us from the BCS Championship game. But, we'll win our Bowl game! And finish in the top 5, again.

I agree with pretty much everything you said, but don't forget...Hines is no rookie. I think Hines can be as good as any safety in the Big 10, so it then becomes...how good is Orhian Johnson? That's the biggie. I think our experienced corners will help take some of the load off his shoulders though. Maybe it's just me, but losing Russell doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I'm excited to see what the next full-time starter can do at his position.
