That is not a switch, that is a 180! Sounds like a girl I knew in undergrad who was a semester away from a degree in business and decided to switch majors to geology. Her parents were none too happy.

Manfred and I both started out as pre-med majors and switched to humanities/social sciences fields. I'm sure our parents would have liked us to be medical doctors, but we both like the professions we are in (well, most of the time).

First two years of college I was a biology/psych double major, intending to go on to grad school and eventually into neurological research. Then I realized I would have the credits for a music degree without even trying (if you don't count 24-credit semesters as "trying"). Dad backed off his objections when I told him I planned to get a more well-rounded education in my remaining time and then study business at the next level - and that switching majors would let me graduate in 3.5 years and save my parents some tuition. (I should thank them more often...)

My freshman year I flirted with the idea of majoring in Chemistry or Economics, but History was and still is my first love in learning. If I could go back, knowing what I now know, I would change the Poli Sci major into Religious Studies and Philosophy minors.
