ahhh. nick drake. an album of his, pink moon, is one of my "if i were stuck on an island" records. "pink moon" is a seminal piece. elliott smith is a direct descendant, albeit figurative.

if you're wanting an overview, then you would want to start with "way to blue." this albums is more of an introduction, so it is called, than a compilation. when i think of a compilation, i think of a greatest hits album. nick had no great hits, and his most well known song, "pink moon," became so posthumously (in large thanks to volkswagen). his most personal and stripped albums is pink moon. of course, you'll find the title track here. for the most part, this album is just him and his guitar. i'd then move to five leaves left. there is more arrangement -- piano and strings -- in this album. great stuff here. bryter layter has some more light jazz notes. bryter layter would be my last purchase, but that says nothing of its quality.

scarlet, you will not go wrong with any nick drake purchase. it's rather surprising to me that not many persons have heard of him. a handful of years ago a british publication polled brit musicians and those in the business to list the most influential artists. nick drake was in the top ten. across the pond nick drake is a bigger deal.
