you're screwed.. that's a monster size... damn near a slick... but it's the Z rating that's adding the huge cost... not sure why the Z rating.. not like you're able to exceed 175 mph in the USA.. that's a bummer.. but what's worse.. most Z tires never get more than 25,000 miles.. most just under 20,000 .. so you could be looking at needing new tires every year and a half...

I probably could go with a lower rated tire, but like I said earlier, I only need 2 tires. So I want to buy the same tires that are on there now (Goodyear Eagle F1 I believe). They have about 35,000 miles on them right now so I guess I got my moneys worth.

Oops, made a mistake. The OE tires on my car are Goodyear Eagle ZR Gatorbacks. I'm not sure if those are what I have, but I would imagine that they are.

a very close relative of the F1 is the HP Ultra... you have the exact same tire and size my son had on his Mustang GT... I replaced them with the Ultras but he never got more than 25,000 miles on any of his sets... the GT eats tires

You can say that again. I have two GT and if you get more than 25K out of a set you doing good. I have found virtually no difference in tire wear be it an expensive set (Z rating) or an inexpensive set of tires. Since I am not racing the vehicles the speed rating doesn't really mean squat to me. Tread wear does however........

Dunlop Radial Rover AT. 265 70 R16. I've found that places like Discount Tire will match prices, so if you take them an internet price, they'll match it...they don't usually come all the way down to the exact internet price, but they'll come lower than the internet price + shipping, so it's still cheaper. Also, be sure to check Sam's Club...they were cheaper for my All Terrain tires than anything I found online, including Tire Rack, plus the stems, valves, and mounting are all covered for life (and I believe they'll rotate for free, as well).

I bought three 30,000 mile h-rated performance tires for my old Maxima back in either '98 or '99 for $20 each from a mechanic. The tires had < 3,000 miles on them, and were taken from a similar make/model Maxima that had been totaled. Buying two of the tires from Sears would've been over $300.
Call around to some junk yards. You could get lucky. Interestingly, high performance tires are usually on automobiles that, if wrecked, probably wind up totaled. :tongue2:

My car came with Bridgestone Potenza 215/45 ZR-17's. They're horrible... I think they're rated at 160 tread wear. I blew one out on a pothole at about 10k miles, replaced the two front tires with Continentals. They aren't Z-rated thankfully, and they're rated around 400 on tread life. I spent $250 on 2, including mounting and lifetime replacement/rebalancing... not bad. I'm shooting for around 20-25k out of the rear Potenzas before I get rid of those. Looking to make it through two more winters, around 18 months.
