What kind of car do you drive?

Wish had seen this thread couple of years ago. Just got back from C'bus visiting daughter. Noticed her car was dingy, with lots of strange streaks. Well, turns out that when visited in Nov/Dec of couple of years, did the Daddy thing, and washed (soapy wand place), and then waxed in her garage. Also turns out that did a sub-standard job in the cold, and the wax built up and left residue when tried to rub off. Clearly a polisher would have helped. Anyway, a gearhead friend suggested one of those spray-on waxes (Meguires, or Griots). Did so, and rubbed all that built up wax and dirt right off. Apparently the spray-on wax emulsified the build-up/dirt, but left me with two very tired arms. Anyway, her car gleams now, and got a 'thanks Dad', so guess was all worth it...

You’re a good man for doing that by hand. No way I’d even try. I’m immediately calling in power tools or a professional with power tools.

I bought a 2022 silver BMW 530e series in August of last year in August.
L
I went in with the intent to get on the several non BMW SUV’s on the lot, and that didn’t happen.

Still have buyer’s remorse like 9 months later. People keep saying I deserve it and I still feel awful about it.
The people are right

As an owner of black cars, I’ve found that a ceramic coating is a blessing. Once every two years it is a bunch of work to deal with paint corrections and clay bar, but the between is so much easier. Mostly it’s spray with water, hit it with the leaf blower and dry with microfiber.
Clay bar is a PIA, but its the truth.

I've been doing clay bar and detailer plus the ceramic detailer (green)... and that's good, but (and I might have posted this already) but I was messing with my boat in the rain, and I was reading the Meguiar's ceramic wax (blue) instructions where you have to apply it wet and bought some to go over the Boat compound I was polishing into the hull.... that shit is really unbelievable.

Anyway, to your point, in between the car washes actually... you know... clean the car.

As I mosey out to the garage to finish putting a radiator in my 06 Honda....
Man. I just put a over the rearview mirror dashcam with rear camera (plus backup lines wired into the reverse lights) in my kid's '05 X3. Put an OEM 1/4 inch aux jack in it a couple years ago plus a Bluetooth dongle and there's not a whole lot at age 20 it can't do that most new cars can.

Now. I have replaced both front and rear drive shafts, full brakes twice, the entire intake side, most of the cooling system, starter (not super fun!), coils and plugs twice, new fluid in the transfer cases etc, and got lucky with that red shit you put in ac to seal it. Ok fine the panoramic sunroof is closed and will remain that way, and its always been in a light mileage demand role for our family, but I guess its got 160k on it ot now and even if I pay myself $100 an hour plus parts, I bet I only have 20 or 22 $1000 payments in the thing. It's only ever been to a shop for tires.
