Yeah, I know. But it was my mid-life crisis.
Next time just buy a sailboat and keep it in Fresh Creek all year round. It'll be more satisfying

Yeah, I know. But it was my mid-life crisis.
In college I had 2 DCM towers that had 2-12's 1-6 and a 3/4 tweeter. Coupled with a 200 watt Signet Subwoofer. The Towers ran at 2 ohms.
I burnt out about 2 receivers during parties unitl I got a two channel Yamaha that could handle them.
2 ohms is alot for home isn't it? Had a buddy who had a 2 12" (Dynamics somethings) he ran bridged down to 1/2 ohm. He used a high current 500watt amp (audio arts I believe). I don't know much about audio (mostly car very little home audio) but 2 ohms is alot of power for home speakers to take isn't it?
Ohms aren't a rating of power but rather resistance to electrical current. The lower the resistance, the more current that will flow from the same amount of voltage. Most speakers used to be 8 ohms, and thus amplifiers were designed for that resistance. You start hooking your amp up to 4- and 2-ohm speakers and you're just begging to fry your amp.
I set up my home theatre last summer. I took my geek God son along to tell me what to write checks for. Ended up with a Yamaha receiver and a set of Klipsch (sp) speakers for the surround sound. Excellent choice if I do say so, and no where near the cost of Bose.
I would say that speakers are like wine. There's no need to spend the bucks for Chateau Margeaux if a) Ripple makes you happy and tastes good to you. b) you don't like the taste of fine Burgundy
Also spent the bucks for a single remote. Matt lived at the house for a couple of days to program the damn thing, but now I can walk around the house and control the volume on four sets of speakers or sit in the theatre and control the DVD players, VCR & DVR.
The one remote took a while to catch on to, but it was worth the time and money.
