What is the loudest "moment" that you have heard in The Shoe?

Senior Day last week against NW the croud was the loudest i have ever heard there, but I haven't been to that many games. I can't stop watching the clip of the seniors leaving the game. Gives me chills everytime and i cant believe this is there last time playing in the 'Shoe.

i havent been to many in the shoe, so i will have to go with 04 Marshall and i will let u guess when.

but the crowd noise that gives me the chills on videos is definatly hawk's int. against texas, just the whole time as he's running, it was satisfying

I have to agree with the NC State game. The overtimes were insane! I just remember how hot it was.....It was back and forth - everyone up bouncing and screaming. Incredible stuff!

The second half comeback against ND was off the hook too......

The loudest game I've attended was the 1984 huge comeback win against Illinois where Keith Byars lost his shoe. It was an unbelievable rally from 24-0. I sat in the closed end student section, which probably skewed my perception of the noise level but my buddies and I were absolutely hoarse after the game!

The Gamble intercept vs PSU gets my vote. But location in the stadium does make a big difference. I was in the same seat for Allen's intercept vs Michigan and it was close.

I have several memories that are all equally loud:

  • '74? Minnesota: Gophers score once. Arch takes the ensuing kick-off 100+ yards for a TD.
  • '84 Illinois: Byars' 67 yard TD and his 3yard TD late in the 4th
  • '85 Iowa: Wooldridge long TD run and Spielman Tackle of Harmon on 4th down
  • '87 Iowa: Spielman Introduced on Senior Day
  • '88? LSU: Bobby Olive TD catch
    • THIS WAS BY FAR THE LOUDEST THE SHOE HAS EVER BEEN PER PERSON. There were only about 20K of us left. My brother left, I didn't; and he still hasn't heard the end of it.
  • '95 Washington: Several Eddie Runs... Establishment of his Heisman Candidacy
  • '05 Iowa: Tate Temper Tantrum
How could these moments have been equally loud? Because these were the moments that come immediately to mind where the overwhelming emotion of the moment made ME louder than usual. When a big moment happens in the SHOE when I'm there, I cannot hear anyone or anything but myself.

I'll go with the 4 minute span when A) Smith threw the Touchdown to Holmes and B) Hawk INT down to the 17 yard line....

A couple notes about that... I never heard the place get so loud when Hawk picked that pass off, but do me a favor and go back and watch the tape and listen to the crowd right when Hawk gets tackled. IT GETS A NOTCH LOUDER. Gives me goose bumps all the time! Oh yea I blacked out for like 5 seconds cuz I screamed so much in that span I really don't think I stopped yelling for 4 minutes straight! God what a game!!

Beating scUM in '02, specifically the game ending int, was probably the loudest that I can remember (I've been there a lot, so I'm probably missing a few). Nugent's game-winning fg against Marshall in '04 was pretty loud, too.
