Sure wanted to give it to Spinal Tap, but my moving herpes scab just wouldn't let me.

Tough to pick between the Stones and Beatles - never really got into Zepplin. Ended up with the stones, justifying it with the thought that they have been creating new music for four decades. That's impressive output, especially given the overall quality of their songs.

I went with:

The Cure
Pink Floyd
Queen
Yes
The Beatles

Not in any particular order there. I'm a big fan of lyrics, and I really like the lyrics these bands write.

I agonized over Yes vs. Led Zeppelin. Coulda flipped a coin.

It was tough leaving out Pink Floyd, Cream, and Def Leppard. I went with a combination of overall influence and lasting impact.

  1. The Beatles
  2. The Rolling Stones
  3. Led Zepplin
  4. The Who
  5. Black Sabbath

The Beatles are a no-brainer as the greatest British rock band of all-time...they are by far the most covered and most influential.

The Rolling Stones have been together for 50 fucking years and still rock.

Young kids even today know who Led Zepplin, The Who, and Black Sabbath are and can identify/name songs by them, almost 40 years after their peak in popularity.

Not enough love for Queen.

Given who the 'big 5' are here, Queen is actually representing pretty well. It's the Kinks who are sadly overlooked.

Had to put in a vote for Crimson since nobody else on this board did. :shake:

Blame BayBuck & Scottsdale, they seem to be the resident proggers.

Can't forget about NightmaresDad...

I did include prog votes for Jethro Tull, Genesis and Yes (and the Moodies were a near-miss), but I never knew King Crimson very well outside of "In the Court of the Crimson King", and it just didn't seem like they had a long/high enough peak in the High-Prog era to make the cut. Important, influential, foundational, but not one of my own "greatest".

Right. My vote for Crimson is by proxy a vote for everything influenced or descended from them, which covers other bands in this list (Genesis, Yes, ELP, The Police -- I can't vote for them all!), as well as bands such as Rush, Tool, Dream Theater, and Primus.

And I do consider Discipline (Levin, Belew, Fripp, and Bruford lineup) one of the greatest albums of all time.

Here comes the hipster vote:

1. The Beatles
2. Radiohead
3. The Kinks
4. The Rolling Stones
5. The Smiths

Also, Blur really should have been included. Not a top five or top ten band in this muderer's row, but better a good number of bands on the list. Better than Oasis, that's for damn sure.

There can only be one "Greatest" so I voted for the Beatles only. A song is ultimately about the melody and the Beatles were the best at creating them. The Beatles influence on everything that followed can not be overestimated. The Stones are #2, as they are the only band that even comes close as far as their impact on pop culture. Zeppelin would be #3 for me. After that, there is a drop off. Maybe Pink Floyd #4.

1) Led Zeppelin

2) Hendrix
3) Beatles
4) Floyd

Didn't vote a #5 because I'm a retard, but those four are a cut above the rest for me anyways so I'm not too concerned about it. Would've went with Sabbath though.
