What film had the greatest soundtrack?

I don't even need to own a Screaming Trees album because they certainly never wrote a better song than Nearly Lost You, right?
I'm sure that they did not. I know their lead singer went on to team up with Afghan Whigs frontman Greg Dulli to form the Gutter Twins... but only because a guy I work with is a huge Whigs fan.. for... reasons?

Anyway, two that came to mind for me are already named - Singles and High Fidelity. What about Breakfast Club, maybe? Or.. any "Brat Pack" movie. Also my favorite Keanu Reeves as ex Ohio State QB movie - Point Break.

Not my particular cup of tea, but Whitney Houston had some pipes.. so, maybe the Bodyguard... though I never saw it and only know the main tune... which.. was on the airwaves continually at the time.

Tarantino has good sound, Pulp Fiction was the best of his. Big Chill also a good choice.

Another that gets forgotten because the movie sucked is Maximum Overdrive, with AC/DCs big ones. Also Boogie Nights has some great 70s songs in it.

Some other obvious ones like the Graduate and Footloose.

But it’s hard to beat American Graffiti.

Instrumental for me... and my current taste...

Oblivion
Inception
Yeah we can go for days with instrumental scores

Almost anything from Zimmer (Inception, Gladiator, Pirates, Lion King)

Williams (SW, Raiders, Harry Potter, Jurassic Park, Jaws, Schindler's List)

One of the best scores ever, and an interesting look at the various orchestra parts contributing to the iconic sounds:

Vocal soundtracks just can't compete. They can be great but they aren't nearly as powerful.

One of my sleepers for scores is Tears of the Sun. A great movie that often gets overlooked and it has an equally amazing score.

I'm also rather fond of An American Tale: Feivel Goes West. That was some great under the radar work by James Horner.

American *Tail

Nice pull, though now you've brought up his anthology of A Beautiful Mind, Enemy at the Gates, Apollo 13, Avatar, Troy, Glory (already mentioned Braveheart).

I'm sure I'm sentimental about my formative years but the depth of soundtracks in the 90s/early 00s was incredible.

Celine Dion almost single handedly ruined Titanic (put Whitney on that track). It worked for Bodyguard.
