What Do You Cheer For?

I want Big Ten teams to win all of the bowl games, and OOC games for that matter. I especially want TSUN to win. I want just the one defeat on their dance card every year and another one or two in some years. That way, the Big Ten gets rep, we get rep for busting their chops, and Lllllllllllloyd doesn't get fired.

I begin watching games wanting Big 10 to win, even Michigan. But as the game goes on, a lot of times I catch myself cheering for Michigan fumbles and interceptions, and thinking.. "wait.. I'm supposed to be rooting for Michigan.."

In other words, I cheer for Michigan, but it's damn hard to do that.

man, i try to root for scUM. i really do. but then they always do something stupid, and LLLoyd starts making a complete ass out of himself over some minescule bullshit, and i find myself becoming a cynical heckler and just shouting YOU SUCK!!! at the TV a lot...

Thats the easiest part. I can root for them and then, like last year when texas beta them it didnt hurt. A simple "they suck" was sufficent as I walked away from the TV.

I cannot root for scUM under any circumstances.

Whatever tertiary benefits might redound to OSU by virtue of a Big Ten OOC victory can't possibly outweigh the displeasure of seeing Llloyd with that creepy smile on his face.

For decades my attitude has been to root for the B10 against others unless there is a clear reason not to. My logic is, "what is best for the Bucks" and to me a strong B10 is a positive for the Buckeyes and the bowls or other non-conference games are one measure of relative conference strength.

A clear reason not to so cheer falls into two categories: 1) A loss by a B10 team above us in the polls might result in our final ranking being higher. (Regular non-conference and bowls apply) and 2) if I have a real problem with a particular team or individual. The fact that scUM is a hated in-conference rival has nothing to do with choosing to root against them in a bowl. On the other hand, I am so upset with Paterno recently that it will make it more difficulat to root for PSU. :( But on the other hand, I don't much like Bowden, so that will probably offset my displeasure.

Edit: Actually a third reason might be if I thought a recruit might be swayed to a rival B10 team if they won. But this would be similar to the considerations in 1) above.

Go Bucks!

Its hard to pull for Michigan especially when they use to dominate OhioSTate like they did. But truth be known, The BiG Ten has always been good for a long time. Many moons ago it use to be in this order BIGTEN, SEC, PAC8, SWAC and ACC. Now the modern day has changed with SEC holding court in our land. And the BIG12 & PAC10 chiming in once in awhile. Parity in college football has something to do with it. But it nice to see 5 to 6 teams from the BIG10 representing in the bowl games. Then after all its said and done the polls come out to show who wins the battle of conferences. So with that being said i always pull for the BIG10. Now its easier for me to cheer for Michigan nowadays. The dominating period has been put to rest.

I know that I should root for all of the B10, but every time I have ever tried to root for Michigan, even against ND (though I really just hope that those games could really still just end in a 0-0 tie with both teams having like 10 yds total offense combined and 15 unforced turnovers apiece), I just get a sick feeling in my gut. Kinda like when you get caught masterrrr.......uh...doing something really embarrassing that you dont want anyone to catch you doing. Not that anything like that has ever happened to me........ or that's what I've heard anyway. You get my point.

I try to root for the Big 10 teams but sometimes the announcers start over-hyping a coach(Ferentz,Tiller) or a player(take your pick) I can't take it and root against them. Its fun to have more than one team in a bowl but my favorite tOSU moment off the field was watching the Woody Hayes Show live when a boquet of Roses were brought in when it was announced the Big 10 AD's had voted to send the Bucks to the Rose Bowl. I'd have loved to seen Bo's face when it was announced.

I'm trying to think of a circumstance when I wouldn't root for a Big 10 team in an OOC game and I just can't come up with one. Let us not forget that with few exceptions these are all away games for the Big 10 and that they are usually paired against someone ranked higher.

As for rooting for or against Michigan, my take is that like it or not, we are linked to them historically. You have to be older than me... and I'm a geezer... to remember when the Big Game was Illinois. I want to beat them every year and the reason for that is because, like OSU, they represent one of the best programs in the NATION year in and year out. We measure our program by how we do against them. That's why we don't get worked up for the Indiana/Northwestern game.

Let Michigan get blown out in a couple of bowl games, loose five or six straight to ND, loose four straight to MSU and see what happens to OSU's rankings and to the rep of the Big 10. I respect Michigan academically and athletically. I support them in all OCC games and I cheer like hell against them everytime they play Ohio State. Go BUCKS!

I may hate scUM but when bowl games roll around it's time to rally around the family. We all have at least one obnoxious relative that we can't stand and the weasels fall into that category but a win for them is a win for the B10 family. Besides, as long as we've beaten them I couldn't care any less if they win all of their other games. That's not to say I don't revel in their losses but the more they win the better our rivalry is. So I guess what it boils down to for me is that watching a scUM bowl game is win-win, either the B10 picks up a bowl win or I get to laugh as Carr makes an ass of himself.
