One of the secretaries in my office, who specializes in doing that stuff, refers to it as shellac. She shellacs foods, such as but not limited to fruit. Strange hobby.

That's great for decoupage but I don't think it has the rigidity needed for foodstuffs. It's more just a glue than a hard enough coating I think. I would be concerned about cracking and maybe mold using Modge Podge over food.

I'm not actually spraying or adding turf on there, though that would be kind of cool. It actually is just green paint, despite the quote. The wife did it as a surprise to get the project started, while I was out of town.

Any suggestions for how to do turf? Is there anything like the stucco they put on ceilings that might work? Something that's a little finer (not as large of 'bumps')?

Take a box knife and cut out a nice chunk under where you sit during the game. By the time they notice, it'll be too late. You'll have an official coffee table!
