What Brands Are You Loyal To?

Just a basic loafer. I'm kicking myself over what I paid for them in store, though -- probably could have gotten them for half the price with the way they run their online sales.

Yeah. If you're willing to be patient, you should never pay full ticket for AE. In the last 2 years, I've bought 4 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of boots. Overall, I paid just over half what the combined list price was. I picked up two casual belts this month, one black and one brown, to wear with jeans: made in America with Italian saddle leather original price $120 each. They were being discounted and with a "take an additional 25% off" code, I paid less than 30 apiece.

For sure-- it was the first time I'd bought anything there and I've definitely learned my lesson. The shearling coat I'm still eyeballing is listed at $2300 but every other month will be on sale for less than half of that. One of these days I'm going to get enough wine in me to pull the trigger on that one.

The stores are good about applying anything that's being offered on the web. The first belt I bought online, and liked it so much when it came that I went down to the store to get the black version, and Victor rang it up and applied the web code right there.

I had a triumph in my hand at the same time as the premier, and it was basically awesome or spectacular. 6ft medium one piece is like 3.2 oz or some shit.
I don't get it either, but that's the reputation I keep hearing about St Croix. I lost two and a sweet Fenwick- in a fire, but decided not to replace them. Instead I went with JDM Daiwa reels and lesser rods. Those older TD X and Z Daiwas are spectacular

My step dad is a daiwa reel junkie. He has a couple 30 year old baitcasters that just keep on truckin. I think the only Daiwa thing I own is a 10ft beef stick surf rod that I run with a penn 6500 spinning reel. I wasn't planning on buying it, but I walked into tackle direct in atlantic city, and they were like $30 on sale.. shit maybe $20. It will last me forever given I surf fish about 3 days a year. I remember it was so cheap the kid had to go ask the manager if it was right, then called his dad to come buy one.

I have just gravitated towards lighter and lighter gear as I get older.... Gotta figure out the reel for this, I'm gonna use it for walleye from a boat with jigs and weight forward spinners... The problem is when you catch something thst wants to get serious. I went through my light tackle perch phase until I had to grab one too many lines that sheepshead were running away with. It will probably end up with a 30 president

I bought a sheet of carbontex and made new drag washers for mine and upgraded to ceramic bearings. I have some 20 year old Team Daiwas that will throw a jerkbait a country mule.

I only own three Shimanos, and none are high end. Tried a Tran-X throwing big swimbaits and it was a joy. I don't mind heavier stuff, especially after polishing the gears.

I'm very tempted to build a Bait Finesse ultra light Daiwa baitcaster setup though. I'm all over the fucking place.

I’ve never gotten an AE belt for less than $75. $30 is strong work.

Black and Brown are still there is the full range of sizes for 40. One weekend, I added an extra 30 code, and the next weekend, it was an extra 25 code. That's what got me under 30. I wasn't sure about the two prongs, but after I got the first one, I saw that it is pretty restrained design wise. I feared that it might be a little bit biker, but it wasn't in the slightest. Pulled the trigger on the black one the following week. Really soft, supple leather too. No break in period needed, unlike AE dress belts. Having worn both now for a couple of week, I would gladly pay 40 for them.

So having been Shaq'd on my attempt at purchasing oxblood Dalton boots from AE at 1/3 the price, my dress boot itch has not been scratched. I was in the AE store yesterday to get some polish and once again I lusted after the Daltons in #8 color shell cordovan. Though this time, I didn't violate the restraining order by touching myself inappropriately with the display boot.

Roughly the same cost:

Allen Edmonds in #8 shell cordovan from the Horween tannery in Chicago. Pure dress boot. No storm welt. Leather sole. Pure dress boot, can't wear outside in bad weather. OTOH, shell cordovan.

Crockett & Jones Islay. The Skyfall boot. It does have a Dainite sole and storm welting, but I have that covered with my AE Pattons. It would be my first C&J, but I can't get to a store during the pandemic and be properly fitted. I'd have to buy blind on the interweb tubes. OTOH, James Motherfucking Bond.

Going to sit on the boot decision until next Fall. I was a little (OK, a lot) drunk last night and almost pulled the trigger on one of them. I'll stew on it for awhile and pull the trigger on one going into next year's Winter. But, as God is my witness, one of those two boots will be mine.

Get your fucking ruminating out of the way, you’ll be able to buy them on deep discount in two months. That’s when you pull the trigger.
