I know what you mean. There was a time every weekend was a demolition derby. Now a fenderbender puts me out of action for a while.

Wife's car (Acura MDX), anything smaller than a dog is fair game. Will go out of my way for a Canada Goose. Will not hit a dog if at all possible.

My car... Won't run over a leaf.

I agree with those who feel it is often safer NOT to swerve for animals you see in the road.

I find this particularly true when I am driving drunk and those animals aren't really there.

nutria and otters raise the level of difficulty a bit, but can be hit if you time it right.
snakes are good as dead.

I read an article recently that said due to constant interaction with humans squirrels have been somewhat domesticated. Obviously they aren't totally so.

Well apparently part of that process is a disruption in the serotonin in the squirrels' brains. This cause many to be depressed and suicidal.

So they aren't trying to avoid cars, they are saying, "please take the suffering away."
