West Virginia/JUCO/C.W. Post/Kean RB Jason Gwaltney (official thread)

I wouldnt put much into that quote that HH got from Jason. If a USC guy had asked him the same question he probably would have said something pro-USC. I was more encouraged by the Dispatch article where he was very pro-OSU.

On a side note , I was hoping Turner would announce today because most of the reports had him going to Tennessee, but wstripes never wavered from saying he's all USC. Was hoping stripes would take his first L, since that would give us some hope with Jason. But as u guys know Turner didn't announce. I am slightly encouraged in that Gwaltney is one of the guys who stripes hasn't been %100 sure about.

Not a knock on HH, but, to my knowledge, stripes has never been wrong. Never.

Yeah, but as 21 noted, stripes has softened his stance on JG's degree of commitment to USC.

Everyone needs to keep one thing in mind, and that's until last night McCoy was all but a done deal to go to OSU, and then he announces on national TV he's going to Tennessee. Stuff changes very quickly...within hours. These are 17-18 year old kids with everyone in the world telling them where to go. With the way Gwaltney has been, even if he commited to us on TV today I wouldn't hold him to it. Once he's signs the LOI to whatever school, that's when I'll believe it...not before.

Nevertheless, after seeing him play today, I want this kid badly...reeeaaaallll badly.

After much deliberation, I have sort of come to the idea that the coaches may feel that Gwaltney is a real possibility for this class. I think that the staff feels that if they get Gwaltney then they have accomplished the thunder and lightning combination for this class.

If not, they can always rely on Chris Wells to be that other part of the equation for next year. I mean, I can't see the staff just turning away Collins unless this is their mindset. With the quote straight from Gwaltney's mouth to HH it seems as though he has decided on the bucks, but I am hesitant because of what he had to say in the Lemming chat.

Most people think Gwaltney is a done deal to USC and I happen to think that as well, but whether the staff feels that way is another thing. I just can't stop thinking of this kind of a similar situation that occurred last year.

For what it's worth: From Sportszone today:

Jason Gwaltney, perhaps the most celebrated football recruit out of Long Island since Jim Brown, and a guy we're told will pick USC over West Virginia, didn't get too much chance to show his skills as a ball carrier. But the rock-solid 6-0, 220-pounder was one of the most physically impressive players on the field, blasting people on kick coverage and once absolutely destroying 322-pound DT Jerrell Powe in pass protection.

I realize you're not just being a tressel hater and are considering this a possibility. But I still have to respond to this sentiment:

That star receiver was lost last year due to propaganda pete convincing him that big receivers get lost at tOSU's system (how the heck did he miss Michael Jenkin's legend status at tOSU?).

Pete will struggle much more to convince Gwaltney that he won't be the start back. I suppose he could convince Gwaltney that Chris Wells is on the doorstep of verballing and will come in and take away carries from him. In addition to that, Petey could say that he's only gonna take a speed back like a bush, while using JG the way he uses White.

Anyway, only time will tell. How in the world did BC pop onto the radar for one of the best running backs in the country? This kid is about as dramatic as they come. I'd love for him to verbal to USC only to have second thoughts and get some vengeance for that receiver.

I'll add to the Wstripes comments..no one compares with his uncanny ability to have his takes/posts materialize. He obviously doesn't depend on hunches or vague inferences. He actually has sources close to the situation. I wouldn't challenge anything he writes. JG is USC's to lose, until he posts something different.

Per BSB:

Wells said he talked to Gwanltey for a little bit. Wells said Gwanltey is definitely still considering Ohio State. But he'll have to make his own decision.
To add to that, Bill Greene is on the BN $ board stating that Gwaltney is better than a 50/50 chance as distance is hurting USC right now.

He has some news we are already aware of concerning Wilson, Worthington, and McCarthy also and says we will be a top 5 class in the end.

wstripes, hh, or anyone else only knows as much as the coaches know. Because nobody knows what a recruit is thinking. stripes says Gwaltney is still solid on SC, because that is what Gwaltney seems to be telling Pete. But just like Jarrett told Tress he was coming to Cbus, you never know.

I guess my point is, Gwaltney seems to change his mind often. Even if stripes says he's solid on SC, don't be surprised if it doesn't end up that way.

I can't imagine why Green would go out on a limb and say it looks better than 50/50 for Gwaltney. The BN idiots will take him to the woodshed if Gwaltney goes elsewhere.
