West Virginia/JUCO/C.W. Post/Kean RB Jason Gwaltney (official thread)

You know...I was thinking about the who pulling Collins' scholarship cause we already have our 2 backs , as a sign that maybe they think they already have Chris Wells for next year, and are just hoping that 3 rb's will get us through the year.

the thing that irritates me is the one back in his class comment.

usc has a commitment from michael coleman, who was a rushing qb in high school (1200 yards passing and 700 rushing as a senior). He is being recruited as a qb/rb/s.

he isnt going to play qb at usc. usc has 6 safety commits since 2002, not counting will harris this year. where will he likely end up...rb?

of course that will not be determined until after gwaltny is signed sealed and delivered

good point tsteele...

the staff must feel confident with Haw, Pittman, and Wells as its pair and a spare. Russell and Lenix could provide some emergency depth there as well. Plus Ginn is dangerous no matter where you line him up, including FB/RB.

I just cannot see Chris Wells being strictly an OSU/UM battle from start to finish without some other school jumping in the mix (Miami, USC, Tennecheat, PSU). Rarely does a commit go wire to wire with only two teams in the mix.

Even early commits who don't take there visits are rare. Worthington has been committed to us forever but still is taking his visits. Guys like Boone and Manningham are getting rarer these days...staying committed to one school and not taking any other visits.

Looks USC bound. He's been yapping a lot about wanting to make an instant impact as a freshman, but now is content with getting PT as a sophomore. Seems to line up with what Bush and White told him earlier, about sitting behind them and then taking over in 2006. If you were at all confident as a Buckeye or Mountaineer fan, that chat should bring u back to reality.

We've got more than three backs, sport.

Anderson Russell (same size, speed and running style as Conredge Collins), Erik Haw (big back at 6' 1" 215, or speed back with a 4.2 forty?), Antonio Pittman (with a year under his belt and a much improved O-line), Dionte Johnson (Pepper's little Pile-driver) and Maurice Wells (Mo' Money in the bank, as in Wells Fargo). That doesn't include that Ginn kid. I hear he can run pretty well too, out of the shot-Ginn.

The only thing that looks real positive to me is "will there be problems when I get there?" I've caught McCoy doing that a couple times (I will learn from AJ Hawk, etc), and I like to see that, but when you balance that one comment with all the others.. well, it don't look good.

It looks like USC. I'm not going to say that for sure, as stranger things have happened, but I think we'll see him announce for USC on Saturday. Damn.

anderson russell has said repeatedly that osu is recruiting him as a safety.

I think everyone was talking about 3 true RBs...Russell has stated that the staff recruited him as a safety, Johnson is a FB, and Ginn is a WR. If you are going to list everyone who could possibly line up in the backfield, you forgot Schnittker.

True, but I assume (knowing you being a junkie like myself ) you've seen his Rivals film. I think it's phenomenal, some of the moves he makes and the speed he has.. I think he could come in and really surprise them. I think he could be a seriously good one, he's got the size and speed.. just looks phenomenal on film carrying the ball.

Gwaltney might think he'll be the odds on favorite to have the starting spot once White & Bush leave/graduate, but they're sure to land at least one or two more blue-chips before then. USC should be the team to beat (at least early) for Moline's services next year.

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Hello!

Curtis Marozzi (Clarksburg, WV): Jason Gwaltney, How was your visit to WVU this past week and did we make you feel welcome? And, how does the thought of wearing #14 on your back and stepping up to be our next big, punishing running back. We are here waiting with open arms Jason.

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Definitely. When I went to the basketball game they were chanting my name. It was a decent visit.

Jim (Ann Arbor): Jason, Michigan needs you at LB. Interested?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Nah. USC is the No. 1 team in the nation and Ohio State is recruiting me. Why would I go somewhere not as good as those teams?

Mike (Cincinnati): Jason, would love to see you in a Buckeye Uniform next year! What are the top 3 things you are looking for in a program?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: I'm looking for a good education and not necessarily to play early, but to have an impact in my sophomore year or so.

Gabe (Canton): What did you think of Pete Carroll calling you at 2 in the morning? Impressed or mad?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: 1:44 actually. I was impressed. They had just won a title and for me to be on his mind, that's amazing. I must be doing something right.

Anupam:Los Angeles, CA: Jason, so what number should we stitch on the back of a cadinal and gold jersey for you?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: SC said I could get 14.. Ohio State said I could have 14 .. and West Virginia said I could have 14 .. that's the number I want.

ty (c-town): would you rather play as a rb or an lb?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: RB.

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: I'm too athletic to be a LB. I never played it that much before anyway. I'm only 5'11 ..

Bob Beckley WV: Jason will your brother Scooter have any impact on your decision? thanks

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: No impact at all.

Jeff (Tampa, FL): Jason, does the fact that WVU has sent its last six starting tailbacks to the NFL influence your decision making?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: That's big right there. But it doesn't matter where you go, if you are good, you will make it to the league.

Brett Beckley, WV: Jason how does it feel to be compared to a great like Jim Brown?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: That's astonishing to me. I'm going to try to prove to everyone I am just as good as him. I just want to be close to his talent level.

Carlos(NAWLINS): Jason...do you consider yourself the greatest player ever from Long Island?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: I've leave that for you to decide.

Shawn Cleveland Ohio: JHOVE, Who was the first school to recruit you? And will that have any impact on your decision

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: West Virginia.

Steve (Omaha,Ne): Jason it was reported that you where looking at Nebraska at one time? What made you look inot them?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: I was at one time. But the day Marlon Lucky committed, they called me in class and said they still want me. But I wanted to go somewhere as the only RB in that class.

jay (virginia beach): Jason when will you announce your decision?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: It's up in the air right now. Could be this week or next week on the Hot List on ESPN.

Mark (Alexandria): J Hove, I remember hearing one thing you wanted to improve was your speed. What's your 40 time these days?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: I really don't know what my 40 is right now. I havent' run it yet this week. I'm a lot faster though. I'm also bigger than before.

Randy (Lewisburg, PA): Jason, what fans have seemed the most interested in you and will that play a role in your decision?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: West Virginia for sure.

Co (Tampa): Was Texas ever a factor and why not if so?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Texas? Nah.

greg: u realize there is a distinct possibility you will gain 2,000 yards as a freshman at wv right.......

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Yeah. I know.

Todd Clarksburg WV: Jason, Does the mess at Ohio St worry you about going there?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Without a doubt. It's a scary feeling. Will they be in trouble when I get there? I'm taking my time so we'll see what happens.

Morgan (Charlotte): Which coaching staff have you been the most impressed with so far in your visits?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Pete Carroll's staff. They were just ready to get after it and that is how I am.

ty (c-town): do you feel that you will make as bin an impact as adrian peterson?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Depends on what school I go to.

Rob- Fremont, Ohio: Does playing in front of 102,000 people at the Horseshoe excite you or make you nervous

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: Whether it's 10 or 102,000, I'm ready to play ball.

Brent (Cbus): Are you really torn? Or have a pretty good idea where you want too attend?

SportsNation Jason Gwaltney: I think I have it decided. Gotta run now.
